Boost test, am I doing this right?

Read a few DIY's where you just pump into the intake side of the turbo. Does the throttle plate hold the pressure on the other end? I can't hold pressure that way. Not at all. I hear some fluid moving around somewhere, but I can't hold boost. I don't think I'm even holding enough pressure so that I'd hear a leak.

I tried doing this a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if I was doing it right. But I thought the rear pvc had to be disconnected and plugged. I also read to remove the oil cap.

Fail, you need to plug the pcv return line from the turbo. You are just pressurizing the valve cover and it is escaping. See pic, I use shop rags and a wine stop.

Also, I have been told it is not good to pressure test on the inlet side of the turbo since it can strain the seals. I don't really see it doing that much damage and I do it on the inlet side, but just a thought. So you would test at the IC piping instead.

Thanks. I wondered about that pipe but thought the check valve in there would hold the boost. You don't block the hose going into the throttle body?

No problem, and no I don't block anything else.
