Electronics, dash, a/c Shut off car still on

Searched.
It has happened a couple of times now. 2010 s4 DSG 68k
The other day went inside the store left the car on with a/c on. Came out 10 minutes.. All power off inside ie. a/c off screen on dash off.
Turn car off and back on was overheating. Turned heater on leveled out. Electronics shut off so fan stopped cooling.. my guess..
Anyone experience this ?

How's your battery? Not sure how hot it's been in CA but we have been in a damn heat wave of 100 degrees in PA for like two weeks. I've been running my AC non stop even while idle for a 5+ mins while my fiance runs in the store. I know it's adding some stress to the battery for sure . The other night while parked with the AC on, low beam lights on my cluster flickered and I got some dash warnings and the the idle dropped. Popped opened Carista and it said function limitation due to voltage to high. It shut off TPMS, ABS modules, central electronics etc all kinds of crap. Shut the car off and restarted and keep the AC off and it was fine.

My battery shows bad after I had it scanned at autozone. So It can be a case of going into low power management mode were the car starts shutting off electronics in order to keep running on reserve power. I got a new battery today from the dealer and tossed it in. It's been brutally hot here in PA in the heat wave.

I swore i read on here if the car is in fact in low power mode, the car will shut off electronics if it sits at idle for 3 mins. I could be wrong. So essentially it will start shutting off electronics in order to keep the car running.

Replaced the battery i would say maybe 6 months ago.
Yea its been 95-100+ for awhile.
Going to test my battery tomorrow.
Low power mode sounds terrible if its going to shut off cooling components and overheat the car.

It's random as well what the car will shut off & its up to the ECU would assume.

I've read some people have had electronics turn off while driving which can be dangerous if in a intersection and the car decides well you don't need power steering, headlights or abs!

Mine turned off steering angle sensor, central electronics and tire pressure warning briefly. It didn't fully cut it off really just flickered. I did turn the car off and back on and it was fine. Odd

Just had this happen to me as well a few days ago while I was driving. Everything shut off but engine and let me continue to drive till I got to a parking lot. Let it sit for a few and started it back up and everything was back to normal. Had been driving in 110 degree heat for almost a couple hours when it happened. Scanned it and had a ton of over voltage codes.

Yup, this heat has been pure hell! Got the same over voltage codes. It's making the car work so much harder and impossible to not have the AC at full blast at all times.

If I'm not mistaken, if your battery is week the alternator has to work harder to make the extra power needed to run all the accessories when idling. when your moving, your RPM's are higher and that will work well but as soon as you stop (at a light) the alternator has to produce more power at idle causing high voltage issues.

I was about to post the solution there but might as well start here. The dealer replaced the voltage regulator. There's actually a TSB for this, 2031145/2. It seems to be a common enough issue to issue a TSB and the same voltage regulator is used across most of the model line (A4, A5, A6, A7, Q5, Q7). Interestingly enough it doesn't explicitly list the S4 but the symptoms are the exactly the same. Maybe they don't list the 'S' variants and just fall under the 'A' line. Here's the repair order:

That's interesting only time my S5 has ever done this during this brutal heat wave. My battery did show up " bad" via auto zones scanner as well.

Last night happened again. Sitting at a drive thru no a/c on 85 deg outside dash just went black.
Gonna take it to a shop friday and see what codes i pull.

Mine seems to be good since I replaced my battery. Longest I've let it sit idle is about 3-4 mins since battery replacement so not the best stress test. However it's 95-100 degrees here the last week.

Tested the charging system.
First test Voltage regulator failed.
tested multiple times after that and passed.
Car was sitting before test.

If the car is charging at 18v when regulator acts up its killing the battery over charging it.
Still haven't pulled codes..
Gonna take it to a buddies shop and throw it on his fancy strap on scanner tomorrow. I mean snap on
