Anyone else car breaking down?? Really disappointed at Audi

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi, I have a 2010 S4(first Audi ever) and I'm the original owner Had the car for more than 6 years now and have 31,000 miles. It's barely driven and garaged a lot. I just had to replace my thermostat 3 months ago out of pocket since it was out of warranty($1000). This was a known problem that Audi was aware of since the begining and I even brought it in 2011 to fix the water pump, which goes hand in hand with thermostat. Ok that's settled, but now I have 3 led bulbs out on my rear lights. Like really? I researched and heard sometimes its water that gets through the light seal. This is terrible quality especially since my car is garaged and doesn't see much rain.. Now I'm having issues with my sunroof. The knob that controls opening and closing is all out of funk. Usually you turn the knob to open, now I just press down as if were to leave it tilted up and it opens and closes. If you just hold it down it opens then closes and keeps going. Really frustrating. Anyone else having these issues?

I think your car is mad at you for not driving it! Odd that the controls would flip.

You're right that thermostat and water pump go hand in hand and are very common on these cars. I'd maybe guess that keeping the car garaged and not driven isn't helping the LED issue. Possible that water got in and then the car sat inside in the dark for a few days and it couldn't dry out like it might have from being driven, just a hunch though. We had a few LEDs go on our Q5 early on but it was under warranty. As for the sunroof knob, its something I haven't heard of or experienced. Our 2010 Q5 has been rock solid for 103k now and my S4 is at 97k with no problems either. I have heard of some people just having horrendous issues with some B8s, but thats normally just a case of having a lemon. Sounds like your car isn't all that bad all things considered

I have a 2013, which I assume (or hope) has the major issues ironed out like the T-Stat or the Mechatronics. I've had mine a year without issue. I dread any major issue, but I have reasonable confidence that these are pretty reliable cars from the posters here.

Your car is just pissed for being driven <5,000 miles per year. Honestly, not even kidding about that.

This has to be a troll thread, or a 20 yr old who has very little perspective on what a car falling apart really is.

Dude has an S4 with some LED's out and a interior knob out of whack.

    Life must really suck.

I've also had my 10 since new. I had the water pump go out at 4k miles.. Mech unit at 57.5k and crank case breather around there too. All 4 wheels bearings. Car is at 69.5k right now.

Those are all the repairs since March of 2010... Glad I haven't had electrical issues. Sorry to hear OP. Hopefully not costly to repair.

1st world problems. Sorry couldn't resist lol.

As a note or question even, those 5k miles are evenly spread out grouped? What I mean is, do you park it for months at a time? I believe that if this is the case, you should be happy that you don't have bigger problems like main seals or valve seals or something like that.

Anyways, sorry to hear about the electronics issues. Those aren't common problems with these cars. Could be a fluke, or maybe some rodents are eating wires while it was parked? Sounds silly but it happens. Mice love wires. We had an issue at the software company I used to work at. They ate the shit out of the Ethernet cables lol.

I agree with this. It sounds as if the OP should have just bought the American Dream Car (aka. Corvette) instead and kept it a garage queen. Drive the Audi hard once in a while (ie. "Italian tune up")

beat the shit out of mine daily and it just smiles back lol. 2014 with almost 90,000km have yet to have a single wty claim all just regular maintenance. I run an aggressive maintenance schedule due to my environment. Use it often maintain it properly you should have little to no problems, unless you got one of those wonderful lemons lol.

My 2010 S5 has 79k and it drives and rides wonderfully. Honestly people are shocked when I tell them it's a 2010 for how nice condition it's in. No creeks or rattles, have OE H&R springs on my OG shocks and still rides the same as before the sprigs. I drive this car year round 365 days a year in snow and all. That's what these cars are meant for, not a garage queen. Drive it! You'll still lose value in the end even with low miles, it's not a RS so it's not going to hold that sort of value. Drive and enjoy it!

I have a 2013 with 38K on it. No issues at all.

I leased a 2006 Cadillac CTS years ago. I was in the shop every 2-3 months with issues. Before I hit 2 years and 24K I had the following items replaced:

    -Sunroof Motor
    -Driver/Passenger seat warmers
    -Heat blower motor
    -Water pump
    -Driver side front ball joint
    -Front suspension bushings

Consider yourself lucky that you only had minor items go out on your 6 year old vehicle. You could always purchase new, newer, or buy an extend warranty.

I've owned a bunch of high mileage audi's and never had issues. 09-B8(3.2)-252k km,12-Q7(3.0) 135k km, 14-B8.5(3.0) 53k km. The a4 was driven daily with 100+ km trips, The q7 is driven often not daily, my S4 is driven Daily with 100km+ trips as it replaced my old a4. So i really do think it is the fact you car sat in the garage for most of its life. It sucks to hear you're having issues but maybe changing to a car that doesn't require a lot of attention would help? I hear corvettes love being neglected.

Lol you guys are funny, I've had the car since it came out. I drive it often and almost everyday to the gym after work even though I don't live far away. I live in SF and its small 7 mile radius. Forgot to mention my rear view camera is always glitchy and its 50/50 that it works in reverse even though I had it replace once. It just sucks that there's all this little shit that's happening after my warranty. Of course I could afford to repair all this but I'm just bitter bc I treat the car good and it was my first big purchase...

Based on the year and mileage even if you drive to the gym regularly it sounds likes its such a short trip that you never get the car hot enough and running under normal operating temps. This will be a problem long term. Try to get the car out more and enjoy it. My S4 was my first big purchase and I also drive less than most, but I do a lot of CAr events and trips to make sure i enjoy it. '12 with 40k miles. That includes a trip from NY to TX just a few days ago. My car has been great with very minor issues.

Try to get an aftermarket warranty and then go in for these issues to be covered.

I feel your pain. I hate the dealer with a passion and I get way to stressed out about taking the car there. Slowly working in letting go.

Well You bought a BRAND new model car. Their are always bound to be issues, Audi or not. They do the best of their ability to release a car with a little problems as possible but they can only do so much testing. Its the real world under how these cars are driven is when the common problems pop up. Hate to say it the water pump t-stat and tail lights are common problems with the early B8's. Now your sunroof is doing all kinds of funky things.

But you can't expect to have a car with 0 issues. If you got one that didn't have 0 issues you got a good one. But the car is built by humans. Its not perfect.

I plan on getting rid of mine at around 60k and will do so before if an issue begins to creep into it's world.

Love the car but the risks of something costly happening after that point are too high to justify enjoying it past that point. By then something else will be out there for me to want anyway. Until then I will enjoy the shit out of it.

had your water pump and t stat or mech unit failed within the first two maybe the first 3 years of ownership i'd agree that, that is bullshit but honestly having owned bmw, mercedes, and audi and lexus... yeah there's no comparison to the japs reliability in my experience but i'll tell you what... this little 3.0t is damn near jap reliable. I drive mine like a banshee when i can which is often and she has held up much better than other cars i've owned besides my is300 which was just retardedly bulletproof.
