Time to play "Guess What Burned Up?"!

So yesterday morning I was in a rather long drive through line and I started to smell the faint smell of electrical burning. Shortly there after the AC started to get warm. As I left the drive through it got cold again, so I suspected the fan quit on me. Once I got home I popped the hood and sure enough, the fan's not working. Would you suspect the fan control module? Is there a good way to test it? Anything else I should be looking at? I already checked the fuses, and they're all fine. Thanks in advance.

I wonder if the fan has jammed and burnt out? does it still spin freely when the engines off?

Output test in VCDS is one way. You could also run battery voltage directly to the fan to test if the fan itself is faulty.

Surely you're aware that both fans should be powered to at least low speed with the A/C on and car stationary, you could turn on the A/C and check for voltage and ground at the connector.

My Vag-com is being flaky and won't connect to my computer right now, so I'm not having any luck scanning it. The fans tested fine and all the fuses in the fuse box in the side of the dash are good, but I didn't know if there are any other fuses or relays thought could cause that, or if that's all part of the FCM. I'd hate to drop $300 on a new FSM and it end up being a relay I didn't know about.

Is there any way to test the FSM? It seems like it should work basically like a relay. There's got to be a wire (or several) that triggers it to give 12v to the fan, right?

Only the AC condensor fan should be running at slow speed with the AC in AUTO mode, with the engine idling. The radiator fan, the driver's side fan, should not be running unless the ECU needs to increase cooling for the engine.

There are no other relays separate from the FCM. The ECU commands the FCM directly.
