    B5 S4 clutch replacement issue

Hey so my 01 B5 S4 is in the shop, mechanic is competent enough but not an Audi tech (I live out in the sticks, He worked as a Porsche mechanic for awhile) Anyway, He got my car all apart and we replaced the Clutch with a LuK OEM one I got off ebay, also did the flywheel and when he put the car back together the slave cylinder blew up. Thought it was maybe just tired so I got another one, put it in and the same thing happened. This morning he took the trans back out and upon closer inspection of the clutch the "fingers" protrude about an inch more than the old clutch that came out (pic below) he said he ran the part number on the new unit and it's right. Anyone out there know where we're messing this up?

What do you mean the part number is right - is it the same as the old clutch or is it the same as the OEM clutch for the car? If the latter, could it be that the old clutch is not OEM but modified (and potentially slave cylinder/other things are modified as well)?

depends do you have a single or dual Mass flywheel and do you have the half inch spacer plate it goes between the motor and transmission?

It may be self adjusting and need to compress the fingers.
