    Tuning and spark plugs

Getting my car tuned next week and had a question in regards to spark plugs and coil packs..
I know on the MK6 chassis upgrading the plugs/coil packs when going stage 2 was suggested for best performance, now my question is should I upgrade my stock plugs before flashing the car or is it not necessary on these motors?

I read on Vortex a lot of guys with MK7 R’s are upgrading plugs when doing stage 2, so curious on this.

Thanks in advice for my dumb question

    FYI,
I will be flashing the United Motorsports Red file onto the vehicle

I changed out my plugs to Denso. Apr recommends it with stage 2. Also I read that they are a tad cooler than OEM so it is better. I was only with JB1 but I too am considering Stage 2 with UNi. As far as coil packs, I did some research and yes it is good to upgrade but only if you are going bigger turbo.

Which Denso plugs did you get?
I think I might just do plugs and coil packs as a precaution to not run into any issues, as for coil packs do the red top coils fit in these or is there a specific coil pack to upgrade too…
The plugs have to be gapped to .24 correct?

The numbers on the plug will indicate whether they are cooler, not the maker, so it would depend what plugs you put in. You're not really "upgrading" plugs so much as running a colder temperature. Depending on your tune, you might want to also consider running a different gap.

I am running the Denso IKH24 Iridium Power Spark Plugs. I installed them when I was at Stage 1. Still running them for Stage 2. I got the 4 pack on Amazon for around $32.

I spoke with UM and they suggested to do 2 cycles cooler plugs then what the oem is for the red file tune I am installing

OP, sounds like you have your answer. Just remember the higher the number (24) the colder if your comparing your plugs. While the general rule applies across the board, the numbers used vary by manufacturer. The NGK ***8** for example is the same temp as your Denso 24.
