    MY2016 Q5 2.0T steering squeak!!

Ok, not too much to describe here. I've had this annoying steering squeak since car had 1000 miles. Dealer did some lube jobs and even replaced the intermediate steering shaft per a TSB indication, but the f***** noise is still there. It happens at low speeds or when parking, when car has been driven for a while and engine is at operating temp. Apparently, it comes right from the rubber boot located behind the pedals, in the firewall area. Dealer will try some WV specific lubricant (aka Krytox GPL105), but I'm pretty sure it won't work (the whole part has already been replaced). Any of you guys have experienced this? Any known fix? Thank you!

I believe that it is the coil spring.

What does your dealer say about it?

Most of them do it. Turn the stereo up and be done with it!

Back with the dealer. They're applying Krytox GPL 105 lubricant (same as "VW specific lubricant"), as the TSB instructs to. I will let you know how it goes.

Same problem for me as well. They applied lubricant and I could have sworn it went away for a short while, but now it's back. I'm planning to just live with it at this point. It seems like more of an annoyance than any sort of real issue.

Same here on my '13, although the second application of lubricant seemed to do the trick. Mine was definitely right around the wheel or the column right behind it. Funny thing was I'd just replaced the clockspring on my wife's '07 Lexus, so I was wondering if that was the source. Fortunately, it hasn't (yet) come up on my '16.

Well, it looks like the GPL 105 did the trick. I'll give it some more time though.

Do you guys know the specific TSB for this noise? Want to print out and bring to dealer.

Not the same squeaking issue, but my center console squeak noticeably in my 2016 sq5. Dealer lubed it, but still squeaks. Meanwhile, my mom's 2016 Honda accord's center console not a sound...

Had mine lubed three times now. Seems to act up most when engine is hot and the temps outside are > 90° F

Did they use the Krytox GPL105 lub? If not, give that a try.

I had my secondary steering shaft replaced recently and am now being bothered by engine noise coming inside the cabin.

The first time the noise was pretty loud post install, and it was when I was leaving the shop, so I went back immediately to get it "fixed". The tech said he re-seated the rubber boot cover just below the firewall correctly and the noise was significantly quieter. After a few days of driving around, I realize that I can still hear a fainter version of the engine noise penetrating the firewall into the cabin.

Could anyone provide me with a link or a screenshot of the installation procedure so I may stop wasting my time again because I just don't have the time, energy, and patience to waste another 1/2 day?

    Thanks in advance.

Could anyone with a current instruction manual of a 2016 Q5 model line post a screenshot of how to remove and install the secondary steering shaft and boots please?

I am wondering whether the lower rubber portion (outside the cabin pointing down) is installed and clocked correctly or not.
