    Hi list,
My rear hatch glass in my s6 avant shattered. Does anyone know approximately how much it costs to replace?

    Thanks in advance!

They are only available from the dealer. My glass company had to purchase from dealer. Fortunately I have full glass. I think about 450.

I did it this way when I had to replace the glass in my old S6. It wasn't fun. Removing the glass safely from the hatch is a total bitch. Not impossible, but you could easily break it. And the way it's installed you end up with the old glue/ seal on the glass and you have to somehow clean it off and they don't sell the seal by itself. It's bonded to the glass when it's made and it acts as a spacer also.
It wasn't until I was halfway done that I checked the price on the hatch glass and a friend who works at a body shop said he could get me one new for $150. He didn't act like that was a special price, so maybe check into getting a new one first.

I repainted my S6 and had to pull the rear glass out to fix some rust that had started under it in the corner. I got the glass out in probably a half hour and then used some regular windshield urethane to put it back in after I had painted it. I was pretty intimidated by it because I had never done it before, but it was not a big deal at all.

You can get windshield removal kits pretty cheap, the ones with the stainless wire work pretty well. I put it back in with cold cure urethane so I didn't even need any fancy calk guns. Just a regular one worked fine.

    Dude...thead-jack but...is that Tangerine!? Seriously!?

Back to thread: The problem I had was removing the glass from a hatch that wasn't attached to anything. I had to have someone try to hold it securely while I walked around it with the wire AND tried to keep the glass safe. I could have had better tools, but..the salt in the wound was I could have bought the glass new for $150. Which is what I paid for the hatch.

Ha I didn't mean to threadjack it that hard, I just wanted to show him that I did it on my own and it wasn't that big of a deal. Personally I'd rather do that then replace the whole hatch with one that could maybe be rusty or who knows what else.

However... you still have to take it pretty much all apart to get the rear window out, so if you can find one that's the right color, that might still be the way to go.

Thanks for the replies everyone, looks like I'm going to bite the bullet and have it replaced by a shop, not enough time to find a used hatch and go through the exercise of swapping.

    Thanks again for the feedback
