    Brake Change Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, quick question. I'm in the midst of changing my rotors and I cannot get the passenger side carrier bolts to turn(bolts holding the carrier to the hub). The drivers side came off without a hitch, it's possible I may be turning in the wrong direction.

So, if I'm facing the rotor (right side of the car, passenger side) the bolts are in effect facing away from (not like attaching something to a wall or such) which direction should I be turning? Righty tighty or down left loosey?

    Thx in advance.

I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

I should also mention that I've tried PB blaster as well.

Some are more of a pita to brak loose than others...I know it's a tight fit, but try getting more leverage by using the longest ratchet or breaker bar possible. Always just picture yourself in front of the bolt to recognize which way to turn it or use a ratchet then you will know for sure. You can also try a quick hard jolt to pop it loose too...so get situated, put pressure so there's not any slop in the wrech/ratchet and give it a hard palm hit at the end of the wrench. Hope this helps brotha

I just did my front and rears on Friday, those carrier bolts are super tight. I dont think blaster will help much because of the nord lock on the bolt. I interlocked 2 box end wrenches then slid a pipe over to break em lose, found it a little tight with a breaker bar. With the bolt head facing away from you go clockwise to break it lose.

Not sure if it matters but I'm doing this on jack stands. I imagine a lift would be much easier.

I basically threw in the towel until next week. I completely annihilated a finger working on it so I'm plotting my revenge until next week LOL.

It's a tight fit regardless...you can turn the steering wheel all the way to the lock and expose the backside so you can get more room to work. Don't let the car win!!!! Lol

You can also carefully try to heat the hub a bit, that can help. Just don't get too excited with it.

I'm going to get a new jack so I can lift the car a little higher so I can have more leverage for a braker bar. My current jack really only gives me about 14" so I just couldn't generate enough torque to get it broken.

I tried my cordless impact but that didn't make a difference and my compressor has been broken for awhile - kinda what made me change over to cordless - so I couldn't use my air powered gun. I'm also going to try a bit of heat as well.

My air powered impact took it off with no sweat. Was glad I could fit it in rather than having to do it by hand.

Just wanted to update this thread for future use. Think of this as facing the car with the rotor in front.

Drivers side - Clockwise to loosen (Using right hand you would be turning right and pulling up to tighten)
Passenger side - Clockwise to loosen.

    Hopefully this helps someone else.
