    Brake light after brake job

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,

I recently did a front brake job on my fathers audi. Since the brakes were not worn down and brake sensor looked new, I reused it.
Since the brake job the brake light on the dash board of car is now on. Prior to brake job it was off. Car has been driven for about a month or two now and light has not cleared.

Any help here would be great! How can I clear this for my dad?

    Thanks in advance

Brake light or pad sensor light? Brake light would be mostly low brake fluid or the sensor on the cap. Pad light, the sensor is probably open circuit and you can jumper it or get a new sensor.

when you did the brake job did you use vagcom to "open and close" the circuit for the electronic e-brake? if you didn't that's most likely why you have the brake MIL.

if you used vagcom and did everything correctly, did you disconnect any of the harnesses while performing the service? it could be that you forgot to replug one back in.

I did not use vagcom. I replaced the fronts only. I believe the electronic e-brake only effects the rears.

It does. If you're only changing the front, you have no need to use VAGCOM. I actually took off my fronts again Saturday and re-seated them with some goop to get rid of some sound.

Sounds like either the sensor was installed incorrectly, or it had already been used. As soon as the sensor is "used" (alerts the car that the brakes are low), it needs to be replaced.

Before you did the brake job, did the sensor go off?

The sensor was fine and there was no light on dash prior to brake change. I did unhook sensor when I preformed brake job and hooked it back up after brakes were done.

If it's for the pads, then that sensor is no good. It's either not plugged in right or the sensor is bad. It's really nothing more than a wire loop that gets broken/eaten away as you brake and the circuit is broken. When that happens, the light goes off. You can check this with a voltage meter and continuity test on the two prongs in the plug of the sensor. If you get a beep, then it should be fine. No beep and it's no good.
