    Well picking up a 2016 S3 Wednesday.

Been doing a bit of research on breaking in period, Hard or soft?

Also, i purchased the audi-care, was that a wise decision? i didn't pick up any other packages. (i ask if it was a wise decision because i have good friends who own auto shops that can do the work, i'm just not sure what kind of work is involved)

ANy tips on owner my first Audi?

Drove Acura's for the past 16 years.

Edit: Also what size winters should i go with this S3? (its got the handing package 19' rims at the moment)

First and foremost congrats! In terms of break-in period I think the manual says 1500 km.

For winters I'm getting 225/40 r18. I think that's the official size even Audi sells.

Other tip, build good relation with one Audi dealer, one service advisor, take your S3 to him / them for all your warranty, give him good reviews, it will pay off in long run, especially if plan on modding.
I personally use Pfaff Audi for warranty work, Shawn Hendrik been taking care of me years, even when he off I message him and he tels me what to do. And as far as I know lots of guys are very happy with him as well.

    Awesome advice guys! thanks!

I haven't picked up the car yet, sadly they had to ship it from another dealer, so it should be here on satuday.

For winters, do you guys pick up steelies? or a cheapo rim?

Normally yes, but the 19's (non-ti package) on the S3 are forged and will likely be lighter and better than most aftermarket.
    (Around 21lb per this: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...1#post11041438)

OP, I actually run 17's for winter and they work fine. I got brand new replica rims with LM32's for about $1,100+tax last Dec.

Break-in, hard or soft? I don't know if anybody really knows for sure but it's no where like it was back in the 80s where you had to go easy for the first xxxx km for things to set. Tolerances are so much better with modern engines, but have followed this with the new cars I had to break-in.

    http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

As for modding, the riskiest is with engine mods specifically with the ECU. All Audi dealerships have the standard tools where they first plugin their diagnostic tools and it's able to determine if the ECU's been tampered with and gets the "TD1" flag. Google it, lots of discussions around it and the risks and hassles that comes with it.

Congrats on getting the S3. I'm sure Saturday can't get here fast enough! At least you'll have it for the long weekend!
Too bad you won't have it for the monthly meet up tonight.

I thought about getting nice summer rims. That means i need to pick up a set of winters for my stock 19s, thus taking off perfectly good tires which would probably last me the entire 4 - leased seasons.

BUt as for winter, 17's work fine? suggested rim size and winter tire size?

As mentioned above, you should contact Allen at Simply tire.....he's done my winter set ups. He usually has a package (wheels and tires) that will work. My A4 came with 19" peelers that I love.....went with 18" winters w/ RS4 reps which are a good looking wheel....and common on A4s for winters. Which wheels did you get? I had originally thought to use my 19" peelers as my winter set and get some BBS for summers but, realized I liked the peelers more than expected, the pricing on 19" winters is higher than 18" plus I was a little worried about the potential damage in swapping out just the rubber. If you're going from 19"....17" it would look too small.....IMHO. Don't think you would be happy with that. 19-17 your speedometer will be off a bit due to the smaller circumference of the tire. A few things to consider.....

Awesome. I was thinking 17's cause it's cheaper lol.

I'll definitely reach out to allan. When is the best time for purchasing winters?

Also, did any of you guys install HomeLink?? My dealer said it wasn't an option, but i've read some threads in the US that they got Homelink.
Looks like we can purchase it
    http://mito-auto.com/index.php?optio..._category_id=9

    or

    https://www.amazon.ca/LiftMaster-hom...ct_top?ie=UTF8

Anyone know if i can pick this up and get the dealer to install this?

Edit: Just picked up the car! will post pics later. I have the advanced handling package and red caliber brakes, the dealer told me to purchase 18's for winters.... ?? Yes or no?

What are you guys riding in the "individual" mode? i'm at dynamic on every setting except suspension.
ALso, did you guys get carpet floor mats that say "S3"? >...cause i didnt.

    i want to do this:
Set Oil Temperature on all DIS Menus
    [17] Instruments
    Go to Long Coding
Byte 10, Bit 1. Display Oil Temperature
    Tick Box

This enables the oil temperature on all DIS menus (the ones you scroll with your left thumb) rather then just the lap timer. Very handy as the S3 has no temp gauge! Should be like this as standard really!

What VAG cable do you suggest i purchase? Edit: I didnt' realize it was a pretty expensive system. damn.

Homelink is a DIY, the A3/S3 forum has a DIY on it.

OEM winter is 18's but some 17's will fit just fine. I got mine from http://www.tiretoronto.ca/

It's worth it long term to get a cable for yourself, but if you just want that mod (I did it plus a few others on mine), you can find someone with a cable at the monthly meet and they can help you.

Allen @ Simply for winters ... he can get pretty nice forged winters. On my TT I had RS4 replica rims for winters. Stock was 18 so I had 17s.
(Speaking of ... I need to go about selling those off)

If you're going through Audi Uptown - highly recommend Andrew Nascimento and of the svc manager, Mark Wong.

I get a funny vibe from people at Uptown. Then having a ten minute debate with a SA (who's no longer there) about how he's trying to get me to bring up any issues/concerns before I fill out the survey I'll receive from Audi if I can't give them full marks.

Thats exactly what I do. Cool wheels for summer and OEM 19 with winter tires for winter. I've done this on 5 Audis. Welcome.

If they plug it in and that mod shows up then his hands are tied. Any dealer would do the same thing.

Did the same with the B5, I couldn't be bothered having nicer looking rims for winter. Potholes, salt, etc. ... didn't care :)

Yes sorry, didn't mean to give the impression Audi Uptown are mod friendly. They are 100% by the book there. I just mean Andrew is very responsive and works well on service issues.

I don't know of any dealer that is mod friendly except perhaps Pfaff since they run a tuning shop next door. I have no idea how they work that ... or whether they try. This is what kept me away from doing a few simple things to my TT ... and what has me holding off doing anything to my S4 yet.

I ALWAYS put winters on 18 or 19 and they work great. When you go to 17 ride and handling changes entirely. 19 with LM 32 or similar high performance winter and car isnt much different all winter especially when roads are dry 90% of winter .
