    Clutch Replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello - I'm at 50,000 miles, and looking at replacing my Audi clutch with either another stock clutch and flywheel from Audi, or a stage 2 or stage 3 clutch and flywheel from Eurocode. Does anyone have experience with Eurocode's stage 2 or 3 kits that can comment on how they feel/drive compared to the stock clutch, and how long they may last? My car is currently stock, and I don't have any future plans to modify my S4 over the next couple of years while I still have my CPO warranty. If I do anything past that point, it would likely be to chip the car only. Thanks!

Have not heard of any Jhm issues, all have been eurocode. 15k on my JHM stage 4 no issues.

That's pretty low mileage for a clutch replacement. What happened?

I have the push clutch to start issue occurring, which according to Audi means I need a new clutch. My theory is the stock clutch on these cars is quite weak, as I've never had to replace a clutch prior to 100,000 miles on any of my previous vehicles. Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with Eurocode's stage 2 or stage 3 clutch?

I am a little over 50,000 miles and get major slippage from time to time while spirited driving. I am glad to hear the positive feedback on JHM. I was almost contemplating going stock due to all the posts about people having issues with aftermarket clutches.

I am very happy with my JHM stage 4 clutch and flywheel. I also had to replace my original clutch at around 50,000 miles. However, I feel the APR stage 2 and track time, contributed to its early demise.

So what JHM stage clutch/flywheel are people getting for stock S4s? Stage 3 seems to be the right one for anyone driving the S4 like it should be driven.

I got stg 4 and it feels like stock with about 10% stiffer engagement. Even had a friend drive my car and he couldn't believe it wasn't the stock clutch. He had driven it prior to the clutch replacement. Only difference is it doesn't slip.

i had no idea jhm was problem free thus far... I guess I sort of lumped all clutches together after the "push clutch to start car" debacle.

I have the JHM LWFW, JHM Stage 3 R clutch (if you want the 3R you'll have to call them and ask specifically for the product, as they don't appear to be publicly selling this clutch for the B8, yet), stainless slave line with frequency resonator delete, JHM short throw, and JHM solid linkage. Paired that with 034 tranny, rear diff, and rear diff carrier inserts and you have yourself something LOTS more fun to drive.

It does create a bit more NVH. However, in my opinion, it's 100% worth it!

^ I appreciate the tip. Also, I enjoyed your video in your build thread very much.. <-- probably one of the better videos i've seen of the s4 recently.. i've got to get an exhaust and work on this clutch (even though it's working fine in stock form currently but your video is inspiring me).

The push to start clutch issue was a leaking slave cylinder and the clutch pedal needed to be slightly adjusted, but stage 3 feels on par with stock. Same pedal feel, but way better grab. Make sure to add the USP braided clutch line too!

Do you notice any difference with the solid linkage upgrade? Does it just reduce the side to side slop when you wiggle the knob in gear? I seem to have a weird issue with my linkage that when the car is hot it can be more difficult to shift and requires more effort than in cooler weather. Any idea on what the issue would be?

Could be the plastic wearing out if you're still on the stock part.

If you're on the JHM part, my guess would be that it's an adjustment issue.

As far as I know, there is no adjustment of the clutch pedal.....or master cylinder, or the slave cylinder.........

Yeah, not with OEM parts. Not sure what "adjusting the clutch pedal" means... Maybe there is an aftermarket slave with an adjustable push rod out there?

I did the jhm shift linkage recently with ECS short shifter at the same time. It's hard to gauge what the linkage did exactly but I have zero side to side movement and it feels VERY solid going into every gear.

What does the "R" denote? racing? stupid questions but what is the frequency resonator delete (first time hearing that) and what does NVH stand for? I can't find any info on the 3R clutch

I spent 15 minutes yesterday trying to search for what NVH means.

    Noise, vibration, and harshness.

Anyone who has a JHM setup, does the JHM clutch provide a better feel than the stock clutch or is the delay valve always going to be the culprit of a vague feeling clutch on this car??

Were you able to install the linkage without dropping the trans? It seems that the bolts for the shifter connecting rod and push rod on the passenger side wouldn't be accessible without lower the trans a few inches

Honestly I am not sure, I had my shop install it along with some other parts.
