    2017 Q7 Stereo

My wife just got a new 2017 Q7 with the basic (Bose?) stereo system. I realize that the tonal quality of a sound system is a very subjective thing, but to my ears, it is so bad that I'm concerned there might actually be something wrong with it. For reference, I have a 2013 allroad with the basic sound system and I think it is great. I've also been in several different service loaners (no 2017 Q7s, though), and although they all sound different, I've never been in one I thought was really bad.

The treble is fine, but there's no low bass to speak of, and the mid/bass is overwhelming. It is not distorted at all, but has a "muddy" sound that overpowers everything else. If we turn the bass control all the way down, the sound is fine, but of course then there's no bass at all.

So, I'm not here to complain about the Q7, I just truly want to know if it's just me. I've done a little bit of internet searching but haven't really found an answer to my question - is this something that's been brought up as an issue with the 2017 Q7? If not, I might have to take it back in to have it looked over. After which I'll decide it's just me, and will learn to live with it.

    Thanks
    KN

Hummm now that you've mentioned it. I do find the bass on the Q7 4M lacking as well. Now I am a 35 year old guy with two toddlers so I'm done with the days of sub boxes in the trunk but I crank the bass on the Q7 all the way up and I can't really hear anything. Mind that the Bose system is the mid tier (there's a basic Audi sound system on the base) still I would expect it have more thump from the 500w system. I mean there is a sub in the back right? My B8 S4 with no sound upgrade has better bass than that. (Highs and mids on the Q7 is waaaay better of course) but yah I agree with what you are saying.

I agree. I have a 2014 sq5 with BO upgrade which sounds ten times better than our new 2017 q7. It seems to sound better with volume turned up but at low volumes it really is low quality. I can't figure out how to make it sound any better

Are you all talking about the $1,100 Bose 3D Sound add-on that comes standard with the Prestige but is an option for P and P+?

This is really unfortunate if the "upgraded" system has such poor bass, I'm very pleased with the Bose Surround that came standard with the P+ package on the 2014. Coming from a B8 A4 where I added an aftermarket sub, I fully intended to do the same on the Q7, then decided it was completely unnecessary after adjusted the bass level. I've found that Surround Front seems to work best for my taste, i assume those same options are available on the 2017?

It's also pretty silly that the P+does not include the Bose Surround upgrade, especially if the basic Audi Concert is so poor. Nissan Pathfinder has a better base system than and Audi Q7? That's pretty poor...

I have the prestige with 3D Bose system, the lows are great.... do you have the Base Bose system?

The 3D Bose system does have a sub in the back, my MMI has subwoofer controls like bass/treble

I did test drive a Q7 without the 3D bose, and I agree it sucks.

Glad to hear that's your experience, seems to be consistent with what i have on my 2014 with the sub in the trunk that sits inside the spare. Wondering if there's confusion about the fact that the base system is also Bose based, as well as the $1,100 (Prestige standard) option, so you've got two Bose systems before the B&O comes into play. (Couldn't the B&O be $2,500? For that I'd probably bite...$5k is just too rich)

Does anyone have that $5k BO system?

If so, could you snap a pic of the sub in the back plz

I still like my S4 B8.5 with B&O over the Q7 with Bose. I rank it above an A7 with Bose and on par with a newer TTS without B&O. I just don't know.

Agreed the B&O was better in the SQ5....

Now I'm wondering if I could swap that Bose sub for another...
