    Hi,

While looking at used Audi's I was told by the selling dealer (Audi or 3rd) that the car came from auction. We are talking 1-3 year old cars.
Do most Audi's at the end of a lease go through n Audi auction where Audi and 3rd dealers can bid and resell?
Anything to be concerned about buying a car coming from such an auction?

never heard of this practice, although, I'm sure every dealership is different.

My dealer certifies their lease returns and puts them back out on the lot.

It's my understanding that dealers will try to sell the car on their lot for a certain period of time(month or so?) then send them to auction.

If the car isn't damaged and the paperwork checks out then why not?

My car was a corporate lease return, and it went to auction, then my local dealership bought it, and I bought it from them. I believe they might have tried to put it on their lot, but since it wasn't moving, they decided to send it to auction. I wouldn't worry about auction cars too much. People try to make them seem like they are terrible but they aren't. If you do your homework and buy from a reputable dealer, get a warranty, or CPO, then you should be fine.

Am about to sell/trade a 13 rs5 within few weeks. It has been excellent so if it is traded to a non Audi will probably be sent to auction. Service history is what u need to know. Just as an aside Audi's car of tomorrow "fusion" grill has chased me from Audi. I hope the grill goes the way of the " Bangle" butt.

I don't understand...you're trading in your old Audi because you don't like what the newer models look like?

Maybe he doesn't like driving outdated models and isn't happy with the new design. Better to get a jump on the sale/trade rather than wait until the new ones arrive.

My S5 was an Audi Corporate car out of Texas. It was bought by a 3rd party dealer here in Alabama and I jumped on it when it showed up on their website. 4 months since the in service date and 8000 miles. Had several Audi dealerships stored in the Navigation previous destinations. Brake pads, even the tires looked like they were new. All of those 8000 miles must have been Interstate. I got a great deal and it has been perfect. IMHO it is a good way to save significant dollars and still get a very new Audi. I got lucky and found a Prestige with a 6 spd manual in a good color. The only oddity with mine is that there was no record of the 5000 mile service having been done. That worked out for me though because I had it done at my dealer at 8500 and it was free.

Usually when a car come off lease the dealer its being returned to has the first stab at it. If they don't want it then they call a wholesaler. Then it may or may not end up at an auction... Generally speaking auction cars are what the dealers don't pick the first round because of unwanted blemishes. But on the same token its a good opportunity to find a nice car at a discount if you don't mind having some unknowns.

Cars go to auctions pretty often. When you do your lease return, that dealer can buy it: They can sell it as is or they can CPO it or they can sell it at an auction. Cars at auctions doesnt really mean anything because eventually they would end up at one.
