Just picked up my MY16 S6 from its first service and I couldn't be happier. 11 MMI updates and a TCU update that has transformed the car, even with the stock ECU software.
Firstly the noticeable things are the MMI now knows that I'm connected to Spotify on my phone. The current tracks progress bar is handled differently and doesn't appear at all, when there would have been weird times on it. I can now reply to TXT messages (used to fail after clicking send), which was a real pain before, especially when driving. I'll report any more things, as I find them.
But the big one is the TCU update. Sports mode is now brilliant. The hesitation, while braking, between 3rd and 2nd downshifts (where the car seemed to go into neutral for about a second or two, before dropping the clutch), is gone. The car now downshifts earlier with a nice throttle blip and a smooth progressive deceleration. It's now more like the S4, and the A3 S-Tronic (in sports mode), I was driving as a loaner.
Also the bad sports mode hesitation, if you coasted (no brakes) to just below 40kmh (25mph), and then accelerated before it downshifted to 2nd, is gone. This one made it embarrassing to use sports mode around town, as there was an obvious hesitation and then clunk, when it eventually found 2nd gear. The downshift to 2nd now happens just above 40kmh (and goes to 3000rpm in 2nd), so the car is ready to get up and go, much sooner than before.
I should also mention that the sports mode downshift cackles, as I call them, are still there, and without the hesitation, sound much nicer, all the way to a stop. I remember someone else losing this, with a MY16 TCU upgrade.
The MMI menus have been reset, so lap timer and active cruise control distance menus are gone, but so also are a couple of odd menu entries that appeared, and some that were greyed out. I don't know if it was caused by one of the MMI crashes (freezes) I've had, or after a session trying to activate Audi Connect and Speed sign detection. So I'm please I can now just enable the things I know work. Obviously all of my options were restored, because the trunk close from the door, is still a momentary click, and I suspect the active cruise default distance will be the same, but haven't tried this yet.
My windscreen/windshield also had to be replaced, after a stone hit on the left hand edge, causing a large crack. Not a cheap exercise, but luckily my insurance covered this and any setup required afterwards. I still need to check if the Matrix headlights work as well as before. It was amazing how accurately they could put a car in the distance into darkness or set the lights just below the back window of the car in front.
Nothing was said about the wheel spacers, even though I asked for the wheel alignment and steering to be checked, and no mention of TD1.
