    Need quick advice. Engine overheating

Just had a stop driving and check coolant engine overheat while driving to work. Parked car and got a ride.

Is it safe to drive in 90 degree OUTSIDE temps if I watch the engine temp? Would I even be able to make it very far (dealer ship 1hr away!)

Probably not. My tstat went in the summer and I had to drive about 5 minutes to the dealer. Barely made it there with the heat on full blast.

It's your thermostat, it is a common issue. You will need it towed to dealer. Been there, sorry.

Figured that. Had good luck with my 2011. This is my first issues after 82k miles. Not bad. The tow will cost $450

I remember once in my BMW, I was able to get a tow to the closest dealer from my house when my car broke down. Might want to check if yours does that.

FWIW you can buy the t-stat for like $100 or so and just bring it to a capable indy shop or DIY it if you feel up to it. It's not hard, just some steps.

Search AZ, there are one or two good DIYs and one shortcut that saves a little time vs the "book" way of doing it.

From what I've heard the dealer gets around $1k to do the job so you may even save a little if you take it to a local shop and show them the diy with shortcut. I've not done it but it doesn't look terribly hard.

    Good luck

I had a stage 2 pulley installed on the supercharger while it was off, saved a few bucks on the install and didn't feel so bad about having to replace the t-stat.

The only good indy shops are still about 1.5hrs. I may try that.

I do a lot of maintenance myself but looking at the diy...idk if I can trust myself. Almost ripped my hair out changing spark plugs lol

I did spark plugs. Not too bad. Didn't even want to attempt tstat. 6 hrs of labor per dealer for $50 part. 1k @ Indy garage. No help from aoa. Sorry I just had this issue less than 2 wks ago

Quick final update. Dealer took about 3-4 hours to fix. It was the thermostat. total cost was $900 with part. Tow was.... $410!

All works well and I am happy. Audi of Lexington is one of the most accommodating and friendliest dealers I have been to.
