    Fault code P1111-001

    Hey guys,

Looking for some help here. I need to get a smog check for car registration. I have a 034 HFC and passed smog 2 years ago. I took the car in yesterday to get smogged and was told that the cat wasn't in "readiness mode". I ran for codes and got one fault, P1111-001-System too lean. I searched for "P1111 smog" and the only results I came up with were for B5's. I have a B7 A4 so not sure if it makes a difference. I was thinking about putting my stock cat back on but no longer have that option because a family member tossed it out of my parents garage while cleaning it up a couple years ago. Any thoughts on if there is anything that can be done to get into "readiness mode" with the HFC or do I need to switch back to the stock cat? If I need to switch back, does anyone have a stock cat they want to part with? I'm getting ready to relocate to Montana for 6 months but plan on coming back to CA early next year so I want to keep it registered here and need to get this done by Saturday. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. TIA..

Have you tried running readiness on your car through VCDS? You could also try cleaning your O2 sensors with MAF cleaner for a potential temporary fix to pass smog.

Yes, I tried through VCDS but no luck. I was told I can't even do the smog until I pass readiness..

Does anyone know if it matters which APR program I have loaded? Does it matter if I'm in stock mode or chipped program mode?

I'm surprised readiness was the only thing they brought up... HFC should fail visual.

In the B5 world we can place an oxygen sensor spacer between the secondary O2 sensor and the HFC to get it to pass. These are not readily available at shops, but apparently you can use spark plug defoulers with certain hole sizes drilled in them.

Hopefully someone has a stock cat you can borrow / swap in though. That's the ideal method (including for ensuring passing visual).
