My 2015 S3 doesn't have it. Is it an A3 thing or is it 2016 model year difference?

Not so sure they are 'standard', my 2016 doesn't have them.

You can mod your current ones to do the same. You only have to do a bit of cutting to free them up.

Why did AOA did this? Beats me. I would have not made two different parts when there is no need.

IMHO, they are defacto on both the A3 and S3. I'm agreement as to why the Canadian models would have it while the US do not. But then again, the US models allow the side mirrors to tilt whereas the Canadian models do not have that option.
