    Deer strikes again...Need parts

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello again. The other night coming home from the airport a deer decided to jump out in front of my car. I was only carrying Liability on the car so I'm kinda screwed. The parts I know I def need are a hood, front bumper, driver fender and lastly the driver headlight. There maybe other damage as well that I just can't see. I am picking up the car Friday night and bringing it home so I can take a closer look at what else is damaged. Hopefully nothing mechanically. I would hate to junk the car. I just replaced the timing belt and did a coolant overhaul recently. One other thing if this helps, the car did eventually putter to a stop about 30 seconds after impact. Not sure what that could have been. I have been looking on ebay and craigslist for parts which I guess would be my first step. If any of you have any additional advice for me I would be happy to listen. Thanks in advance. I hope I can figure this whole this out. I did find a 2003 a4 1.8 Quattro on Craigslist with 148k miles with timing bely changed around 100k however he said he has no documents for that. The seller want 2400 or 3000 if he installs clutch that is needed. Thanks again...Justin

More details about this? Also, what year and engine?

Sorry. Thanks for your quick reply. I have an 03 a4 1.8 FWD. I hit the deer at roughly 70 mph. About a quarter mile up the road my car began to decelerate. It slowly creeped down to about 35 mph so I pulled over as far as I could to the shoulder. I had to start it a few more times to get it clearly off the road. Each time I started it I had to floor the car just to get it to move. After releasing the pedal the car would stall out. Thanks again

I bet the stalling was because the impact broke part of the intake system and caused a huge boost leak. Like the Throttle body hose popped off or something.

Do you guys think its worth buying scrap parts for it or do you think that would be too much hassle and I should just buy the other A4 I mentioned for 2500? I guess I'm just thinking money and time spent as opposed to just money for another car

Figure out what is up with your engine before making that choice. If it's something relatively simple like Charles.waite mentioned, then it may be worth fixing. At the very least, demonstrating a running engine would bring more $ if you end up selling it.

Uploading clear pictures of the damaged area will bring more 'Ziners into play. It's like Where's Waldo for these guys.

Is it an automatic or manual? I see you are fwd so I'm not sure if it would be best to fix a car with the cvt transmission

CVT or not, still gonna make more money off of it with it fixed and running. IF it is a CVT, fix it and SELL it.

If your hood, fender, and headlight are smashed, your radiator support probably is too. The tray the headlight sits on is also pretty flimsy.

I took a hit from a Lexus on the passenger front corner. That's what was damaged on mine, plus the airbox and bumper cover.

On mine, I replaced the hood, fender, and headlight with matching ones from the classifieds. I repaired the broken radiator support and headlight tray by drilling holes on either side of the cracks, applied epoxy, and put a zip tie through the holes to pull it back together. It felt kinda ghetto at the time, but headlight alignment was good. And after almost a year, it's still holding together.
