    Audi Connect T-Mobile downgrade

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've seen a few people talking about their cars not working with audi connect due to the T-Mobile downgrade. Is there a fix for this? Some people have said that they were able to take the car in and the service department flashed the MMI and it was resolved? Looking for some inputs.

Audi sent letters to affected customers offering to upgrade the MMI hardware for free. Resolved the issue on my car.

As state above, Audi sent letters to owners in affected markets. This is based on a master VIN list they created.

My car was not on the list for some reason and I was not able to register the T mobile sim Audi connect sent me. An ATT sim only gave me 2G. I created a case with Audi and one of the customer advocates was able to get my car added to the list - it was a 3 week process but eventually I received a letter. Armed with this letter the local Audi dealer replaced the cell radio free of charge. I can now use either T mobile or ATT and both have high speed.

My 2016 S6 came with ATT but I want to use T-Mobile. Can I?

Any ideas how to check if your VIN is on Audi master list or not?

The dealer replaced my unit but now it only seems to work with ATT. My T-Mobile sim would not connect but when I popped the wife's ATT sim in the car it connected right up. So be wary if you are asking the dealer to upgrade.

What is the T-Mobile downgrade you've mentioned?

Call AoA and notify them of this. You should be able to run either. Your T-Mobile sim may be bad. They can send you another free of charge. I just had them send me an ATT sim so I can switch.

I bought a 12 A7 recently and haven't been able to get better than 2G. I assume my radio is old and needs upgraded to get 3G. Car came from Chicago, I'm in Ohio using US Mobile (t mobile). Anyway, I called the dealership to inquire about it and the conversation led me to believe the cost to upgrade would be on me. Let us know how you do with AoA...

Well my dealer seems to be going to bat for me, they've contacted AoA for me and are looking into it. Problem is the module is no longer available to upgrade the headunit. Will keep this updated.

Contact AoA and notify them. They should be able to see your car on the list of ones needing upgrading. Audi was doing it it free of charge so they still should be.

Are they saying that the newer 5F module is no longer available?

They replaced mine for free - I just had to show the tech that I was connected to Audi Connect and that I was using a t-mobile SIM.

I have a 2012 A6 that I bought in May of this year from a private party in Illinois. He had T-Mobile service in the car there and it was working fine when I picked the car up. On the drive home, it lost signal and now only works when I drive through a T-Mobile serviced area. There is no T-Mobile service where I live and Audi Connect told me that I could switch the car to AT&T after the dealer upgraded the MMI. My dealer here was working with Audi for several weeks to get the parts in and have it covered by Audi. They finally got approval and called me to schedule the service. The morning of the appointment, the dealer called and said that Audi had changed their mind and would not release the parts now. Their reason was that there records showed my VIN did not have an active Audi Connect subscription since January of 2012. That makes zero sense since the system was working fine in May of 2016 when I bought the car and the same T-Mobile SIM card that came with the car when it was brand new (I verified the numbers) was still in the SIM slot. Audi has taken a hard position that they have "exhausted all possibilities" and are refusing to do anything to correct the issue. I'm talking with someone at AoA tomorrow that is supposed to have more authority so we'll see... Very frustrating!

Travis- that sucks. I'm wanting to get this done as well but I use US Mobile for service.. does that put me in the same boat as you? IOW do you have to purchase and be using service directly from Audi for the Audi connect service in order to be approved for the radio upgrade? I also have a 2012... Abysmal speeds, almost unusable.

I took my car in for service and just said that my T-Mobile can connect to 3G anymore, only showed 2G.
They check and said that my Audi connect is not active, I just said I plan to use it and request them to upgrade to the ATT 3G and they did it (covered under CPO warranty).

Wow that's pretty lucky. I'd go in with active service just to be sure. A month is pretty cheap and well worth it to make sure it's covered.

I got mine replaced for free under warranty and I am second owner.

When they upgrade, they will likely upgrade the MMI software to the newest which is awesome b/c in my case, all of a sudden audi connect works and I can use google maps to send addresses to the car and download it from there instead of slow manual entering.

You may be able to just use your phones data if you want.

I can't confirm it works yet as I need to update my firmware to a newer version (supposedly needs to be K770 or higher).

You need a phone that supports rSAP. You need to check "NAD Operation Mode" in the MMI green menu. Then you should have the option to connect to "Car Phone" via Bluetooth.

If you need to simultaneously use internet on your phone, connect to the cars WiFi.

    One question

Even if you A7 does not hace Audi Connect (SIM phone slot between sd cards slots)

Can you Connect your smartphone by sRAP (sharing your data plan with your MMI by bluetooth) in order to use Google Earth in the navigation system ??

So last week I updated to k0814 and last night updated maps (after a lot of stress). This morning I was messing around with the Telephone settings menu because my connection is so slow now to the car that I cannot get Google maps to load. When I went into the settings, at the top it asked me if what I wanted to use for phone calls: Bluetooth or the Car SIM. I've never seen this before and after selecting Bluetooth, that field is now gone. Anybody ever see this?
Also, I've been looking around in the green menu and I cannot find anything on enabling RSAP so you can share your phone data connection... This would solve a lot of problems for me because my car was never updated to use the new T-Mobile network so my connection gets worse by the week it seems.

Brought mine this week, dealer ordered new telephone module. I have the map update but will wait to install until module is replaced and MMI updated.

Update: talked with someone at AoA that supposedly had more authority to solve my issue. He just reiterated what the initial person said but went on to say that Audi is only replacing the modules for people who were affected by the T-mobile turndown from 3G to 2G in certain affected cities and only for customers who received the letter. They don't care that I have ZERO service and flat out refused to help me at this time. I was nice the whole time hoping they would take care of my issue but no such luck!
