So, I thought I share some of the things I learned since owning this car.
1. Downshift, brake, turn, accelerate is by far the best feature of this car. It pulls so savagely.
2. You will lose racing a new mustang GT on a roll.
3. Brake job is easy. Just remember, there is no TPMS on the passenger side.
4. VCDS is a must.
a. I am able to pull my windows down to vent before I get in. It lets the hot Georgia heat buildup out.
b. I am able to watch movies on a car when I'm stuck in my 2 hour commute traffic hell in Georgia. - You need this then format your mini SD to 32 GB no matter how big your mini sd is. I formatted 32gb on FAT32 my 128 GB SD. It reads all 128 GB of content.
c. AVI is the only format that I was able to make it work without trying too hard. Any AVI works. MP4 didn't (MMI 3G+)
d. I love my gear number in the center display.
e. Lap time: Right windshield washer > at the end > up button starts > down button records > Pushing up button long press resets (I think)
f. Honestly, that's all I wanted from VCDS. That and rear electronic brake release for when I do my rear brakes.
g. eBay blue knockoff cable don't work. The Chinese knockoff black 12.12 does, but the software contains a virus/trojan.
5. Rear brakes are easy to do, but you either have to use VCDS to undo the electronic brakes or unplug and unscrew the module altogether.
6. HID fog install is a breeze. Here. Make sure you use a better tape. Also, when you mount the ballast on the wall of the first air opening, make sure you sand the paint off, otherwise the paint will come off easily along with your ballast.
7. Double beeping sound when the car unlocks is annoying.
8. Within a year, the LED door courteous light design strip will degrade to a very bad shape.
9. Audi dealership isn't so bad. Take the good like the tire deals, and don't always take the first deal. They always have room, as long as you can bargain with them for perfect 10 score on their survey.
10. Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 is an amazing tire for this car. 10k on it, still looks new.
11. most likely the rattle is coming from the top of the steering column cover or your cup holder.
12. Cut your nails, so you don't scratch up your leather wrapped door handle badly as I did.
13. The tire pressure is 38 front 36 at the rear. 41psi is for maximum load, meaning you carry full load of passengers, and gears for 19"
14. If your car has 18" from factory, the top speed is limited lower than if you have 19" wheels.
15. Don't ever get the OEM tires that came with it again. They don't last, and there are better tires out there for the price.
16. If you pull back the automatic gear lever, it puts you in S mode, which changes the gear to 6 instead of 7. This took me a bit to realize.
17. The AMI to USB connectors that work is in Europe. Also, the cheaper ones don't work that well.
18. If you get the AMI to USB, you can run a 500gb or 1tb hard drive, as long as you format using above method (FAT32).
19. Yes. There are 5 hole drilled onto the grey plastic underneath your front license plate. Or more depends on the dealership.
20. The windshield washer warning is super annoying. Also, the windshield reservoir doesn't take the full gallon. There is always some left over.
21. Everytime you turn your car off, the drive mode resets. It's annoying.
22. I get 5 to 7 mpg when I'm in Sport Mode.
23. I get 25 mpg on highway on Comfort Mode.
24. If the stock brakes squeel, that means you hit the metal warning rods on the OEM metallic brake pads. It won't stop until you change them.
25. Trunk ceiling has these T hooks. They're for your grocery bags, so you don't smash your eggs on the way home.
26. Those elongated holes on the side of the trunk liner is for the net.
27. The battery is in the trunk, underneath the spare tire. Make sure you clean and air your spare tire in good intervals. They will lose air.
28. The amp is inside the left side of the trunk liner.
29. Rain-X will save your life.
30. Briefly lifting off the accelerator pedal helps with the lag on mid to high RPM.
31. Even in manual mode on your DSG, it'll change the gear on its own so it doesn't blow up if you hit the redline.
32. Launch Control: Turn off tracking control>Put left foot on brake>Put right foot on accelerator all the way down> life off left foot, and go.
That's what I have so far. Hoping this helps someone new to the 2014 S4. Also, if you have some more good stuff, post it. I'd love to learn more.
Thanks,
