b7 6mt having jerky acceleration; clutch slip? MAF?

    Hey guys, first post here!

about a week ago my car started having some acceleration problems. It starts to shudder and jerk when i'm accelerating quickly above 3000 rpms, and it's worse with the air conditioner on, although i'm assuming this is just because the engine is more taxed.

I've had coil pack issues on a prior VAG car and it doesn't feel like that. my first thought was that maybe the clutch was starting to slip? But i've had a clutch go on another car and the slip was very soft, i just kind of lost power and the rpms would rev. This feels more like i'm losing traction and the the engine is pulsing power to regain it but there is no traction control light or lights of any kind, and if i drive really softly and don't get above 2500 rpms i don't feel anything.

I checked the brake fluid because i know it shares a reservoir with the clutch fluid. it seems in order but i thought maybe there is a clog in the system somewhere and I should flush out the clutch fluid? I bought some fuel injector cleaner and a little dot4 brake fluid in a vain attempt to avoid a four figure bill, another potential that i don't really know much at all about is the MAF sensor? does anyone think this or another system may be at fault or is this just a differently worn clutch/flywheel that i need to replace.

    Car is a 2005.5 b7 a4 6mt quattro with 110k, thanks!

Have you checked the cam follower? What about spark plugs or coil packs?

Don't think it's coil packs or spark plugs, cam follower is a definite possibility as my car is like two months out of the 10 year extended warranty for that :/

Is there a DIY check to determine if it is the camshaft follower? I'm not throwing any codes or lights yet, but the acceleration issues is very noticeable.

You'd have to pull your HPFP and inspect the cam follower for damage/a bigass hole.

When mine went, I had no noticeable symptoms.

after looking around it seems pretty straightforward to check the follower for damage but how will i know if there is damage to the hpfp or camshaft? (I guess if i replace the follower and my problems don't go away :( ?)

The tip of the HPFP will be worn and the cam lobe will be visibly scratched or marred. If your cam follower is worn to the point you have a hole in it, I'd say you're almost guaranteed to have some damage to the pump or cam lobe.

    Thanks so much!

two more quick questions, do i need to replace the o-ring seal every time i take off and replace that hpfp? And what's a good replacement follower? This one from ecs is pretty cheap and comes with a seal, or should i try and track down the "type b" oem?

You probably don't need to replace it every time, but you will want to have one handy the first time you change your follower for sure. I would change it every time just for the peace of mind, but that's just me.

That is the kit I used to change my follower the first time I did it. That follower will be fine, but it can be had for cheaper elsewhere. You also don't need the bolts, I reused my old ones and had no trouble with them.

I've removed my pump a few times and never replaced the O-ring.

Since you're an early b7 you're going to have the rev A cam which means pretty much the minute the follower gets a hole in it your cam is hosed. I would check it right away. Since you're outside of the 10 year warranty I wouldn't expect any help from Audi other than splitting the cost of the repair, if there's any damage. Given the loss in power there could be a number of explanations for it.

When my cam follower blew on my 2008 I seriously had zero symptoms at all. The fact that I checked the follower and found the damage was sort of blind luck.

I would look into a fuel filter, coil packs, plugs, possible boost leak?
