    Removing old gas from tank

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 1/3 tank of 2 year old gasoline in my tank and would like to remove it.

I searched the forum and found a section on how to jumper the fuel pump without turning the engine over, but the details were lacking a bit.

Can someone explain this or elaborate a bit better.

Where do I do this? At the fuse panel at the drivers door?
How do I make the connection to my jumper wires?
What node on the fuse connection do I connect the hot lead to - left or right?

Add seafoam, add more good gas, drive it nice until you need to fill up again...

My car sat for 3 years and it started right up. I took it over to the gas station and added the highest octane I could (94) and drove the hell out of it and then filled it up again. No issues at all.

Not taking any chances, thanks guys. Too many bad past experiences.

For anyone else out there interested, here is what I found and im wondering which would be easier. Option 1 or 2. I have them labeled. If I do option 1 how do I jumper the relay?

Too many bad experiences? Why are you letting cars sit for years that many times??

2 would be easier, as far as removing panels and all, but just turning the key to the on position will turn on the fuel pump, which is even easier.

Turning the key to on only runs the pump about 2 seconds for it to prime and then it will not run again until you crank the engine over.

Here's how to jumper the relay. When you unplug the relay you will see 6 blade sockets. 2 on top, 2 in the middle and 2 on the bottom. Power comes in from the large middle horizontal blade socket. Turn the key on. Run a jumper from the horizontal socket to large vertical blade socket in the same row. This should apply power directly to the fuel pump.
