    engine sound

I've been getting a rushing sound coming from my engine. It doesn't happen when the car is cool, only when it has warmed up and seems to get louder the warmer the engine is. The engine almost sounds almost like a giant fan and loses the ‘throaty’ sound. If I get up to speed it used to goes away by 30 mph or so and the engine sounds returned to normal sound but it doesn;t seem to do that any more.

There no squealing or ticking or dentist drill sounds (bad turbos). I guess the closest similar sound could be a window A/C unit. There are no fans continuing to run after I shut the engine off. The engine seems to run at a normal temperature and performance doesn’t really change at all. i just did an oil change and it didn’t make any difference. The temperature doesn’t jump up if I stop either.

the fan by the oil dip stick turns when the engine is running but the one to the left (passenger side) does not. There is also a fan in front of the radiators that does not turn when the engine is running. I think one would be for the A/C but I don’t know what the other is or if that could be the cause of the change is sound. (also my a/c doesn't seem to be running) I bought this car with 177k miles on it back in December and have been trying to slowly nurse it back to health.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Check your breather hoses, I had a similar sound and found it was a worn hose.

i'll look into that. What about my fans though? Should more than one be turning when its warm and the A/C is off?

It is your clutch fan, when car gets warm it engages, and spins at engines speeds. You may have a fraqtured fan blade and it makes some horrible sound.

    Which engine?

Probably a fan clutch, as mentioned above.

I'm betting your correct on both. I did find a crack on the fan. I was trying to decide between a new clutch/fan or an electric conversion

Do an electric conversion. If you do replace the clutch and/or fan you'd only want to use real OEM parts, which are not cheap. EFK is probably the same if not less expensive.

What kit did you use ? how you (maybe where) connected electric termoswitch? I know 2.7t guys pair their switches to pusher fan and they engade at the same time. I don't have it (2.8 engine). Any help or suggestion how it should be performed would be great.

JHM's EFK V2. Just followed the directions, tested it via the battery. It's spliced into one of the three connectors by the power steering pump. Was a bit confusing for a while because the relay had 5 wires coming out of it, when the pictures/instructions showed 4. I can try to take some pics tomorrow.

Unfortunatly it will not do any help, because your engine is 2.7t and it already have build in termoswitch to which you linked your new fan, my 2.8 doesn't have that. So my conversion need to be done differently. But really thank you for help, nice to communicate with helpful people.
