Question on KW Height Adjustable Springs (HAS)

I just had KW HAS installed on my 2016 Audi Q5. After the install, the installer gave me my springs back along with these strut covers. Aren't these supposed to be on the Struts or am I missing something?

They are. However, I broke mine from the lows and it was causing a clunking noise. In hindsight, i'd have asked to get them pulled out too.

Isn't part of the reason to still have them on to protect the strut from dirt and grim? If so, I would think they should still be on or am I mistaken?

Sure. The stock struts are probably short lived on KW HAS though, I'm sure the additional 2.5" of constant compression isn't good for their life.

The foam piece is partially intended to be a bump stop as well.

Interesting thought but it likely should be trimmed if your lowering heavily. Wonder if it needs to be trimmed for H&Rs.

I would've trimmed instead of removing completely, but as mentioned above, your stock dampers are likely to be replaced soon enough anyway, and you can consider trimming and reinstalling at that point. FWIW, on my old Q I went with H&R springs and stock dampers. No trimming required. This time, since I went with shorter dampers as well, some trimming made sense. I believe they removed two nubs up front and one in rear.

I just called KW and they stated they include a new bump stop/dust cover with there Height adjustable springs. I checked my car last night and I saw them on there (there a lot smaller then the stock ones). Just wanted to ensure everything was kosher on the install.

Now time to get my GIAC stage 1 tune!
