Need some help here. Was installing new plugs when I noticed 2 of the coils where cracked in the plastic. So installed 6 new intermotor coils and 6 new ngk BKR7E gapped at .028 seems like it has less power at higher Rpms now any ideas.

Gap down to .024 and see if it helps. Otherwise, those coils are shit

Ok I will try that tomorrow. Otherwise the car runs smoother then ever. The plugs I pulled out where at .024

Car will run smoother at .028 strange you notice less power? Maybe the coils are funky, they aren't oem so who knows

I've seen this a few times already. Many people running the colder plugs. Unless you are running higher boost, you should use BKR6E plugs. The "7" rated plugs are 1 step cooler than the "6" series. Are you tuned? Are there actual misfires currently or just feels slower? Codes?

I run 20psi and have to gap my BKR7E's to 0.024 or they will blow out.

It's stage 2 running around 20psi. Seemed great before with these plugs at .024 weird that .004 could cause a issue. There are no misfire Codes at al. It almost sounds like what your describing with blowing the spark out. Never feel anything funny just 45-7k pulls slower then before. I though maybe I was getting used to it so had a buddy ride with that ride in it before he said the same thing as I.

In both S4 and RS4 B5, ALWAYS use OEM sparkplugs, nothing else. Anything non-OEM will cause troubles with these engines.

The person that did my tuning says I need the colder plugs.

Well you should run colder plugs if you are tuned, I would say to gap the new plugs to 0.024. The ones you took out were old so even if they were gapped at 0.024, doesn't compare to new plugs gapped the same amount.

So what does t feel like if it's blowing out the spark? Don't miss Or anything like that just takes longer to go through the rpm band higher up?

Not sure there is a definitive "feeling" but you notice the engine not performing right and maybe some odd idle once in a while. It could lead to misfires, but you won't get a CEL if it doesn't misfire enough to trigger the CEL. Fresh plugs correctly gaped are always a good place to start.

So I gapped the plus to .024 and tried again same result. Going to swap coils back tomorrow and see if anything changes. Thanks for the input

Also, it doesn't hurt to add some dielectric grease to the tops of the spark plugs before reinstalling the coils to assure the connection is solid. Not sure why people don't talk about doing that more.

Blowing out spark is something you can hear and feel.

There is complete power loss if the spark it blowing out so you will feel a stutter in power delivery and usually a farting/popping noise from the exhaust.

Well I swapped 4 of the good OE coils back in and I can tell a huge difference in higher rpm. Looks like I will be returning these 6 intermotor coils and buying 2 more OE coils. So much for thinking I was helping it

I did have plenty of dielectric grease on the new oils
