    Possible exhaust leak??

I have the Borla cat back exhaust on the car. THis started the other day when I was driving home in a torrential downpour, the exhaust sounded like it was loose and making crazy noises. When it stopped raining the next day, the crazy noises were basically gone, but I took the car to my local guy to see if anything was loose. It looked and felt snug, but we noticed a lot of carbon around all the connectors. I was under the car a month ago and did not notice this at all. Now when I let off the gas and naturally decelerate, it does seem to have a bit more of a rumble to the sound and a bit of vibration in the gas pedal. I am taking the car in next week to get brakes done since my pad warning light also went on yesterday, but does anyone have thoughts on the exhaust issue?

    Thanks.

The sound of your exhaust will change in the rain. Under normal conditions, the exhaust expands uniformly due to heat, in the rain the expansion is not uniform and can create a resonance that can be terribly loud. I had this issue with a custom exhaust on my B6. Old Guy and Diagnosticator (B6 forum legends) explained it, but I had to experience it quite a few times before I believed that my exhaust was having that issue.

yeah i did some research after the fact and i did see that, but I have had the exhaust well over a year and this was the first time it ever happened. Crazy sounds, but it was a downpour. My main concern now is the carbon i see around the joints on the exhaust and the louder noise when i decelerate. I filled up last tank with BJs 93 octane, went back to Sunoco 93 this tank i filled today. Don't know if this would have caused any issues, or if the carbon is from the expansion/contraction during the rain and possible leak.

I have the Borla exhaust on my car. Check the flex pipe part of the downpipes. That metal weave-like section sometimes deteriorates, which lets some exhaust out, creating a similar rrumble. I was told the salt on the roads has a role to play in those parts of the downpipes starting to come undone. I've had the rumble sound twice (and currently do actually). Contact Borla, assuming you purchased it normally they will be able to send you new downpipes under warranty. I just got mine this weekend. Great support from them - they were super responsive and I got the new downpipes within 2 weeks.
