    2001 ecu compatibility ???s

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I purchased a 2001 avant which needs a lot of work to get her back on the road. It needs the windshield, heater core, and headgasket redone. I have a nice 6758 efr turbo itching to get under the hood so out will come the gt2560r eliminator turbo and in will go the 6758. The flow rate is insanely different between these 2 so it will need a tune which will be maestro since I already have the cable for my 99.5. I opened the ecu box and the ecu has PES 440 wrote on it. If I am right this tune was for t28 based setup which a gt2560r is basically a bb version of a t28.

I do not want to flash this ecu as I am guessing it is chipped. What I am wanting to know is if I can buy another 2001 ecu and swap it in or do I need the ecu and some other accessories? Thanks
If you can read this thank a teacher, since its English thank a veteran...

I'm pretty sure you have to use a CH box for 01's since they use me7.5. Auto, or manual shouldn't matter as long as you have vag-com to change the soft coding.

When I got a spare ecu to tune for my 2871r I got an ecu out of an automatic 1.8t Passat, and changed the soft coding. Worked like a champ.

How do you change the soft coding on the automatic vs manual?

Vag com. I believe it's in the transmission module, don't remember exactly. Several write ups on it.

Good luck tearing out the entire dash to replace that heater core. Not a fun/easy job. Sometimes it's better to get a bucket, pump, clr/acid and running it through the old core.

I might sell it and go gt3071r instead.

The heater core is leaking on the inside. It's got to be done, yay....

I thought you said the newer ones are fine. Unless his is one he's been hoarding awhile(I've seen his sig for over a year about the 6758)

The quality issue has been fixed. But over spinning them can still drop the turbine.

I had mine gone over by a company that borg warner suggested. Mine actually came off an indy car and I traded the housings for the regular housing that have the integral bypass valve. I was told to use the speed sensor with it. Indy car started with 6758 and went to 7163. So it's not a newer one but I could find out if it was one of the earlier ones though I was told borg literally trashed all the problematic turbines. I want to run it but the thing is I have a manifold and dp for t3 housing. I can weld but my fab skills suck shit.

Mine does have the aluminum center housing but all indy turbos did. I also have the multiposition waste gate design.

    I would think a gtx3071r wouldn't be a bad choice. I am wanting 350awhp from it.

Dan what did you do with the compressor and it housing? Basically the rest of the turbo?

The blown 6758 is laying out in the garage. I've been searching for some place to rebuild it so that I can sell it since I ordered a 7163. No one at Borg Warner will talk to me, just keep getting sent to voicemail.

If you want 350awhp the 6758 will easily do it, and spool insanely quick.

GTX3071 spools much slower. I have experience with both. EFR hands down, all day long.

Dan are you going to run the speed sensor this time? If so what setup? I am curios for mine.

I doubt it can be rebuilt since borg warner does not sell parts for them and the technology in the aftermarket is not there to make them. How much would you want for your busted unit as long as 5he comp cover and compressor is usable? I have made some insane turbos over the years and I am sure I could mate the compressor and adapt the cover to another turbo.

I think the only people that make a sensor is the company Road Rage. Yeah, I am going to pick one up for this turbo.

The compressor and housing are fine, no damage. What's it worth to you?

I need to look at its size and do some figuring on compatibility. How hard it would be to swap it too say a gt30 or gt28 turbine. It's a 6mm bore and the gt ball bearing series is 5.99 but it should still work. Or I could bore the comp and mount it to a tried and true stage 3 t3 turbine. There is some Taiwan efr turbo compressors and i thought about trying one of them.

Give me a price. If you want I can get you the guys info that took care of me but be forewarned, if you get ahold of him and you like talking turbo your going be on the phone for awhile. I will pm you his info.

Actually, I have so much junk laying around that I can set up a jig and make a EFR manifold and downpipe that would bolt up to stock exhaust, so would work with any aftermarket exhaust. I think I'm going to do that.

If my plans change I will definitely PM you.
