Auto dimming rear view mirror - problem solved - interesting find.

Bottom line = the auto dimming function of the rear view mirror on my B6 A4 stopped working due to a burned out passenger side map light bulb.

A month or so ago the auto dimming function stopped working and I lived with it and did not look into it until today. I noticed there are 6 wires going to the mirror, which seemed like a lot to me, so I looked at the schematic and saw that, in addition to the expected connections (direct power source, power source through the ignition switch, and ground) the mirror has an input from each: the driver's side door control module, the passenger's side door control module, and what was identified as the front interior light. After some trouble shooting, I determined it was a burned out passenger side map light bulb causing the problem. The driver's side map light does not factor into the auto dimming, but I believe the general interior lights (the ones near the map lights and sun roof switch) do factor into the auto dimming.

If your auto dimming mirror isn't working, check those lights!
