Anyone have any tips on jacking the car up completely off the ground?

Edit: using jack stands to work under the car

Scissor lift! All at once, otherwise there is no way to lift all four ends at the same time.
That is one thing this car is missing is front and rear center jack points.

Maybe you'll come up with a bunch of theoretical reasons why it's bad, but I've seen tons of people lift cars by the diffs and nothing bad ever happened

Never tried to lift a car by its diff never gonna try. but if you scootch the jack a couple inches forward you get a centre jack point so theres that.

Can anyone post an actual picture of where exactly are you placing the lift in the front and back? Much appreciated!

There isn't a center point in the front. I got tired of this a few years ago and just purchased a scissor lift. All of jack points on the side of my CRX are folded in because of this. Manufactures figure that other than changing a tire the car will be lifted at four points for service and repair.

Jack up the front, place stands, on both sides.

Jack up rear, place stand, then jack up other side. Drink beer in between.

Why do you need to lift all 4 corners?

Ok heres the low down with jacking the car and using jack stands.

You really can't use the pinch welds to jack up the car since that where you will place the jack stand. You can jack the front up buy where the bigger lower control arm meets the subframe.
You CAN jack the rear up by the diff. But you have to be careful not to jack on the motor if you have the sports diff and don't jack on fins either. If its a solid point of the case it will be fine. That being said there are plenty of places to jack the car in the rear. The rear subframe or the lower control arms are fine also.
The best jack stands i have found are the aluminum ones from harbour freight. They have cut groves in them for the pinch welds and work great. I had my car and another sitting up in the air on all 4. No issues.

Very nice! Is there enough room with that lift to remove the transmission pan and complete a dsg service?

Not sure have not looked. I only had the S4 on it once to do the front brakes. I did look and all the trays could be removed but I did not remove them to see if it would hit anything. Sorry

    sorry missed it!

But for $400 more you can have a scissor lift that will go up much higher. You lose some of the middle access unless you get a split type lift.
I have kicked around the idea of a 4 post lift in my single car bay that way I could have full access underneath and extra storage.

I was trying to use on of those bendpak quick jack lifts on my AMG but it didnt come close to reaching the front and rear jack points. On the S4 it looks like it wont either in that picture. Where did you put the posts to lift the car in the rear? Looks way more forward than where the jack points are.

are you asking about my lift?

If so the arms swing and I easily got them to the stock jack/lift points. No issue at all.

I don't have one but many of the 928 folks (rennlist) are very happy with it and you can remove it when not in use.

Another forum I am on has a several guys with those. I looked at them but could not get them because my slab is post tensioned. If you slap is not post tensioned they are a great way to go. Only issues I have seen people have with them is bolts pulling out of the slab, slab cracking and some have issues with the arms coming up at the same rate. Great option to a fixed two post lift though and a two post is really the best lift possible for working on a vehicle.

video insert did not work but I thought about one of these for the track, so much easier to rotate tires with all four in the air.

I don't think this lift is meant to have someone working under it. May have the room to do a few things but not sure from a safety standpoint. I was looking at getting this just for routine brake maintenance, detailing and other minor work.

For those who use ramps, how do you keep them in place? Every time I've ever tried to use them they slide as soon as the wheels touch the ramp. Even going as slow as possible.

Interesting....I did not know that these types of lifts weren't meant for working under. I think knowing that made my choice much more simple ...maxjax

    Thanks!

Lots of very happy people with the maxjax. Buy them with confidence. I would have gone that route if I could have. The scissor lift was the next best option. You can do a lot with the scissor lifts. We have done motor swaps in the Hondas, guys use them to drop motors in P cars as well.

Post up pics when you get it up and running!

My buddy has the bend back maxxjax and loves it. They used it to pull and reinstall a 1.8t a B6 A4 and no issues. They installed anchors with threads into the concrete so the lift can be removed easily without cracking the concrete. Thats the lift i want to get for my garage. Its decently priced and removable.
