i searched on forums for this answer for some reason no one really knows where to place jack stands safely from damaging the sub frame and pinch welds. ok i know where to place the floor jack but thats where the tricky part comes in where to put the jack stands safely.

BTW im considering using ECS pinch weld protectors for the jack stands...

The pinch welds are a safe place, but they're almost guaranteed to bend if you use just a jack. I've used a 12" long piece of wood between the jack and pinch weld. I've bought stuff like those ECS protectors and even OEM jack pads, but wouldn't waste my money. The wood will distribute the force so the pinch weld doesn't bend, and it also will compress a little.

I usually put the jack stands farther in. Toward the rear of the front subframe near the outer corners there should be some good spots. Check out this article for pics of B7/B8...

Hockey pucks with saw cut slots have worked well for me.

I've lifted several of these cars with jacks (scissor and hydraulic) and stands using the pinch welds and haven't had any issues with them. AFAIK that's the recommended place to use stands.
