    Need help with Sunroof Issues

For the first time today, my sunroof opened about half way when I turned the dial all the way. There was also weird clunking noises associated with this. I played with the dial a bit back and forth until it almost opened all the way back. I say almost because it was still sticking out about a 1/2 inch instead

When I tried closing it, it would activate the pinch safety and re-open.

    Notes:
    - I realized that my sun vizer doesnt come out.
    - No slack/play in the sunroof itself
    - Checked all the guides for obstructions/debris (I didnt pull the liner)
    - Keeps making clunking noises when opening now.

What I've tried so far after searching google:
    - Closing the sunroof with the key in the door. (Activates the pinch safety and re-opens)
    - Reset the ecu by unplugging the battery and holding both terminals together.
    - Closed the sunroof manually with the allen key
    - Closing the roof with the vizer manually pulled out

    Results:
    - Still same issues. Turning the dial to the closed position activates the pinch safety and it bounces back.

I dont think its a faulty dial since the issue still persists when using the key in the door method, any thoughts or guidance from this point on?

    Thank you

    Update:

Removed the glass to see whats going on back there, found this guy on the track.
Im not sure what his function is, but its missing on both sides. Sunroof will still not go all the way back, maybe the second one is in there somewhere.
The sunroof still bounces back if i just close the dial, but if I close the dial while pulling it down and holding it in that position, it closes no problem. Any thoughts?

I have a bad rattle with mine as well. I have yet to be brave enough to pull it apart. Let me know what you find!

After taking apart the sunroof about 4-5 times, found the culprit to be a lack of lubrication. The friction caused the pieces to disconnect.

This plastic piece is attached to the little black one i posted above with the yellow marking. They are joint together and connect to a prong that also has yellow markings on the inside, which I posted above as well.

In my case both sliders disconnected from their respective prongs and just ended up at the back of the rails, which caused the sun roof to block about halfway. These sliders are also responsible for bringing back the sun vizer back when you close the sun roof.

This is where they connect in order for the sun vizor to come back.

The slider is supposed to connect here.

There is nothing to fear to be honest, there are 6 screws holding in the glass, then 4 screws holding in the sun vizor. With those out of the way, there is plenty of room to see whats going on. I would tackle the issue before it gets worst, the last thing you want is the sunroof to crush a loose piece in there.

    Pop off this rubber cover

then there are 3 screws on each side, size T-25 torx

Did you jb weld the two clips when you placed them back? That was suggested in one old diy and is what I did. It has held up for two years.

By the way, when I first researched this issue I read the clips are not sold separately.

Yeah I just JB welded them on today, that was my mistake last time. They still do not sell them separately, i did find two buyers on ebay selling some though. The audi dealer only sells the whole sunroof assembly together. Pretty ridiculous, but im glad it was a nice easy JD fix. Thanks for the input.
