So after a month of hunting down parts I needed and finding out things that needed to be changed to accommodate the 2.7t, I got everything together and was ready to bust out some work.

Motor came out ONE LAST time today...

We:

-Swapped power steering line
-Replaced coolant temp sensor
-Installed downpipes
-connected heater core hoses



Had a BITCH of a time removing the thermal switch, needed to be replaced, had to drill the ****** out





Motor and trans are IN :) engine mounts are lined up and bolted in, trans mounts are on, everything can be totally buttoned up now!

Every day we have been making great progress!

Got most if the wiring sorted today, also found a couple more differences between the 01A and 01E trans that I'll need to repin a couple sensors for, mainly the sensor for the speedo.

Things left untill start up-

-Oil change
-Get a battery
-finish boost hoses/ get hose clamps on a lot of places where they are missing
-Re pin a couple connectors
- find drivers side lower boost hose
-Replace some old vac lines with silicone
-Get a cone filter
-Tie in EVAP.

So today I thought I was in the clear as far as differences between the 2.7 and the 2.8, but it decided to screw with me a little bit one last time.

While mounting my 2.8 rad support I noticed there is a bung for the thermal switch on the lower radiator connection, which is the same sensor as the one on the rear of the drivers side cylinder head. From what I've read the 2.7 ECU knows nothing of the fans, and that they are an entire different setup altogether. I'll just get another thermal switch, wire them both in, and let the car decide which one it wants to use, hahah. I'm assuming with the front back together if I keep all the original 2.8 sensors and fans, it will run as if there is a 2.8 installed, which is fine.

Edit: Above photo is just a mock up, rad support/ lock carrier is loosely hung and bumper is just laid over it. Everything will be perfectly lined up and not all janky like the picture.

I haven't.

I know where I'm getting them from, but I have yet to pick them up. This winter will be full control arm replacement, suspension, big brake kit, and just letting the entire setup "break in" so to speak, so I can see what really needs to be addressed.

Body work and paint will be in the spring.

I used FCP for both my B6 and B8, and will use them again for my B5! Their kits are just priced perfect. I'm going for the full 100% replacement kit, and now I just need to find a set of second hand high end coilovers.

So we have a battery now, and confirmed the starter works! Engine wants to start but wont. Luckily I remembered a DIY I read about the 4.2 swaps people do needing some minor wiring in the fuse box to get power to the ignition coils, and after thumbing through some build threads on MG I found the 2.7t requires this same procedure. Doh!



This is what I found. Between work, school, and my other hobbies progress has been a bit slower right now, but I'll have this baby running soon. Friday my
Silicone boost hose kit comes in, so I can get that wrapped up as well as get the Borla exhaust on and bleed my clutch!

Yup! Bad crank sensor. Should have known. Glad it's figured out though! Yesterday I went to a u-pull-it yard and SCORED big time! They had a 2.7 allroad and a b5 that looked very well taken care of before it ended up there.

Pulled off -

-Coolant tank, rubber hoses, and found the cheap plastic tee had been replaced with a brass one (yatzee!)
-S-line steering wheel from a b5 that legit looks brand new
-shift knob + boot
-Maf
-Full 2.7 airbox with snorkel, ICMS and new air filter

Got this all for $30 lol.

Yesterday I got the engine filled with coolant, replaced speedo impulse sensor (I broke the old one), connected drivers side axle, ordered a replacement passenger side axle, got the coolant filled up and purged, and used some foaming engine degreaser/ dressing to clean up the plastics and engine hoses.

Couple pictures of the steering wheel I got at the junk yard...

At this point I'm waiting to pick up and axle from Autozone (oem rebuilt) and swap that out...car is basically 100% and I should be able to drive her now once that axle is in.

I still need to mount the front bumper and plastidip the car for the winter so it doesn't look like a total dumpster fire.

I think some of the A4 wheels were imitation leather, not sure what year this wheel is out of.

Probably going to dip it white.

Drove the car around the parking lot today after replacing the passengers side axle. It looks like a total dumpster fire but paint/ wrap will come in the next few weeks, and I'm installing my Borla exhaust tomorrow :)

Today we drilled/ tapped the headlight bolt holes that had the head snap off during removal. Got the entire front end 100% and moved on to the exhaust.



Wish I took more pictures but my phone had died. Car sounds ANGRY as shit! Hahah. We gotta do a bit of vag-com work (throttle body alignment ect) and hopefully I'll get this hoe registered this week.

Only thing I need to find out is why there is a gap and a half between the hood under the grille and the bumper. We'll get it aligned 100% but the cold weather was a bit rough to work in for too long at once.

So today I was wondering...

1)... Why is my brake pedal hard as shit to push?

2) Why does my engine idle like I have the biggest vac leak in the world?



Put 2 and 2 together which led me to my brake booster hose.



Pulled the sucker out and low and behold it's totally torn, lol. Replaced it now brakes work 100% as they should and the car idles much smoother.


I'll get an exhaust vid for you guys once the couple leaks we've found are sorted and it sounds like a proper piggie piped 3" 2.7t

Current to do list:

-Get the car registered
-Fix exhaust leak
-Fix cyl. 5 misfire (I'm pretty sure it's a bad ICM, we'll see)
-Epoxy front bumper to crash bar
-Get ebrake cable unstuck.
-Clean rust off brake calipers, paint em black.

This is my last list of tasks to be road worthy. Hopefully I can pick away at them this week.

Luckily my misfire was just an ICM, which I have spares of. Idling much smoother now.

Don't mind the 3 beeps, I need to clear a code from my ABS module.

Small details but I finally picked up a shift boot and armrest lid! It's the little things that count lol.

Friday I pick up a set of control arms to get the loose ass steering tightened back up on this thing, it's as loose as a vegas hooker right now.

Still have yet to swap out the steering wheel, I'd like to possibly pick up a newer style flat bottom, along with a cleaner airbag. Mine has some scuffs that are really pissing me off.

Got that done pretty quickly. Been taking me over two years to just swap out my intake manifold, and it is still sitting in my box-o-shit. The struggle is real. lol

All is not as it seems. Hah, the car has much to go, it's going to be a solid couple of years before I have it how I want it. Just yesterday getting one of the E-brake levers unstuck I snapped the cable :(
