You have a mapped ECU sorted yet?

Not yet, thought about going with a GIAC X chip, or something equally as insane, I want the ability to code out EGT's and some other emissions related BS.

I also got my spider hose sorted! Yee haw.

I'll be getting the drivers seat (couldn't fit it in one trip) dash, carpet, and black headliner tomorrow hopefully as well as the S4 sideskirts.

Every piece of leather had some sort of blemish on it, dirt ect....understandable as this interior sat for a while in a parts yard. I went at starting with Griots interior cleaner, followed by a Magic Eraser used on the tough spots.

Followed that ish up with some Surf City leather conditioner. I have found most products from SC to be effin awesome for the price, they all work really well.

Finally all clean. Finished all the seats and soon I'll do the door cards.

Yes sir. After selling interior parts that I wont use + some of the engine parts and trim pieces I made back $350 of that. So final cost was a mere $300. These cars are all over craigslist with snapped timing belts too, no non enthusiast wants to do a $2000 service on a car worth $1500.

Be careful with using a magic eraser, I used one on my steering wheel and it ate the sealant coating off. It's not something you notice at all visually, but the leather now gets dirtier (has that shiny look) much quicker.

Do you have a better method to clean the wheel? I've tried to use like 409 but it just smears the grime.

Thanks for the tip. I'll stay away from here on out.

Got the dash out, center console trim out today, all that is left is to remove the radio brackets and finally pull the carpet this weekend to get this shit brown carpet replaced with black.

Also I installed the first pieces of the new S4 interior :)

I typically use Meguiers Interior quick detailer sprayed on a stiff paint brush, I use that to lather it into the wheel and then take a microfiber and grip and twist to dry and remove the dirt. If your wheel isn't too bad, that will be enough to get it looking matte again. Even if your wheel is still shiny though, it'll be way cleaner than before.

If you want it to look matte again though, and that doesn't do it, the only thing I can think of is using the magic eraser and then getting some matte leather sealant and reapplying. I have not tried this though, so that is just a hypothesis.

I wanted to ask you if you noticed a real difference between the 2.8 gear box vs. the 1.8? Is it slightly taller or shorter in some gears?

All the gears seem longer. First isn't nearly as tall, you have to give it a bit more throttle when taking off, and If you rev out to 6.5k ish you can hit 60 in second. With the 1.8 gearbox you're looking at 50-55mph. Also, it seems like you have more access to the car's midrange power with the 2.8 gearbox, it feels like the car stays in the powerband longer because it's not building revs so quickly.

On my stock 1.8T it's a bit of a compromise because I'm loosing off the line acceleration, but I do gain mid-range (which once your moving is what matters) and probably a couple mpgs so overall I'm happy with it. With a tune it'll probably pull first a little better and be about perfect.

I think the gearing will suit your 2.7 fairly well.

Im running the 2.8 trans on my 1.8t and what 19 birel said I can agree with I think a 2.7 will like it much better than the 1.8t does. The TQ of the 2.7 will work out all the low end fails of the 1.8t.

That moment when you say "I'm pretty sure I can put this back together" lol.

So! everything A4 related interior wise is gonezo! Dash/ airbag/ govebox/ steering column surround is in. We cut out the carpet and removed all headliner pieces and ended up dropping the moon roof tray to replace the sunroof slider with the black piece from the S4.

Headliner and carpet ready to go in.

Swapped entire sunroof assembly

Carpet in, console together

Headliner up

Thank you sir! I'm hoping to have the interior 100% by Monday, I need to give the carpet a thorough vaccuming followed by a steam cleaning, then Install the front seats, followed by a once over type detail just re cleaning everything.

Next weekend is the engine/trans install!

Sounds crazy, but I enjoy going through things, getting into those areas under the carpet, seeing how everything is looking since the car is near 17 years old. All of this work would happen anyway so might as well save a few grand by just starting with the A4.

Most cheap S4s are either auto, or have a body that has been badly neglected, and are still 3k...

So at this moment I'm waiting on just bolts and gaskets before putting the motor/ tranny in!

So far after parting A4 interior pieces, and trading stock 2.8 parts for mods I've paid $1600 for everything I've bought so far. Not half bad.

Is that including the engine? If so you really made out, you'll probably have that thing solidly on the road for less than what I have in my car and you'll have nearly twice the power and a whole lot more tuning potential haha.

How does your suspension look? control arms bushings and everything okay?

Yes that includes the cost of the engine. Suspension and control arms are most certainly going to need some attention soon, as I have the full service book and not once was anything suspension related mentioned. Plans for Suspension are used mid range coilovers, full control arm refresh, along with a very large brake upgrade, though those will come a bit later. My goal is to have this car show ready around April, but driving before the winter.

But meh, it would be like if all b5's had the s4 grille, or bumper, or side skirts, or if all hatch back Volkswagens were just classified as GTI models instead of there being both Golfs and GTI variants. It separates the higher up model. It wasn't nearly as bad swapping it over as I anticipated though, the hardest part was the sunroof shade.

Doesn't seem hard to swap, but finding the Oh Sh*t handles and other trim bits as well as the headlining itself can get pricey.

I see what you mean, and agree to an extent. That said, even if black headliner were available as an option like it is now on most Audis, I'd bet most still wouldn't have it anyways haha, much like sport seats.

Thats why you need to find a part out. If you buy it all at once it's not expensive. Finding every piece seperately would be a nightmare.

I think I had 150 into my entire s4 upper interior. One of my favorite mods. When I bought my jeep I made sure it had the black upper interior.

I miss my elim turbo so much, I wish I had room for a 3rd car, lol I'd get another b5 and do a high revving 1.8 build.

So not much in the way of pictures today, but the progress was real!

-Removed A/C compressor and all lines
-Installed replacement alternator
-Replaced Motor mounts
-Checked compressors for housing contact and blade damage
-Completed spider hose/ PCV setup
-Replaced passenger side EGT
-Started labeling some sensors just for my own sanity when it comes time to install.

Also received my flywheel bolts, clutch bolts, and turbo outlet gaskets today. Unfortunately this weekend not much will get done due to being busy, but next weekend motor/ trans is going in!
