Stage II Flashed Back to Stock, 15K Service, then back to Stage II Tune

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As I was coming up on my Audi Care 15K service, I didn't want to take it in with my Stage II engine and DSG tune. So I took it to Induktion and had Ed and his great staff (Frank!) tune me back to stock. The next day I went in for the 15K service, and it went without a hitch. I checked the report with my Service Adviser and no dreaded TD1 flag. By the way, I also have aftermarket, resonated down pipes, along with AWE Touring exhaust and USP intakes. No problem! Took her back to Induktion the next day and we were flashed back to the custom Stage II engine and DSG tune. Yeah, it's a hassle to go back and forth, but a necessary step to run this Stage II configuration and not be flagged by Audi.

Great job by both Induktion and AOSS!

My tune came with a GIAC hand held flash loader, but apparently you can't tune it back to a true stock setting, as well as not trip the all important flash counter. With the two GT-R's I previously owned, when I just had an e-tune using a Cobb AP, I was able to flash back to stock before going into service.

Well, it does provide different maps, such as I suppose one for track days, but also a valet setting.

No, but I owned an '09 GT-R that I ordered direct from the factory, as well as a '14 GT-R. I'm sure at some point after I move to Florida there will be another GT-R in my future.

No, both times it involved buying a house and needing to free up funds. The GT-R's were easy targets in both instances, because they were only being driven a couple of days a week.

Well, perhaps a poor choice of words on my part. The tune is custom, in the sense that is isn't a stock tune. But it is the standard GIAC Stage II tune with pulley, and DSG software as well.

Ed@Induktion rocks! Just had my springs installed there over a week ago. I planned to get an APR tune, but have had bad luck trying to contact NGP over the phone to have questions answered so I'm headed in the GIAC tune direction soon.

Ah, I was kind of hoping for a dual pulley tune. Still the stage 2 tune and DSG tune are a nice upgrade.

Dual Pulley software is coming...we have some for early B8's, B8.5 in the works.

Ed - first, thanks for the news! Do you know if GIAC plans on posting a thread about it with supporting performance data?

We'll get those 1/4 mi from the forum. I'd like to know if there will be a stage 3 from AWE/GIAC. APR is on their second try right now.

What is your fastest time? Mine on GIAC S2 and 104 was 12.007@119 but my clutch slipped on the next two runs so I was never able to best that. DA that night was -867 and I am sure if my clutch would have held I could have gotten into the 11s.

Are you sure the problem is really the clutch? I feel like the PP (and delay valve to some extent) is the weak spot.

Man with that trap speed you could be down to a 11.6 or 11.7 with a little better driving. Those were excellent conditions too. Was that at Capitol?

The B8 clutches are really weak. The stock style SAC PP does not hold up well to abuse. However the non-SAC PP options out there do well. I really enjoy driving my friend's car with the JHM 5R but I have driven the Clutchmasters 6 puck style clutch too.

Yes and agreed. It's literally the only reason why I don't have one. The car already has serious heat issues, why compound the problem?

I really think the stock clutch friction plate will hold with a legitimate PP, SAC or not. As stock the PP just doesn't apply enough force.

Yes it does. The gains seem to outweigh the cons at the moment though. There are guys like Primetime, Loe, and others that are running great times for a 3.0T with dual pulleys.

The guys that are running dual pulleys currently seem to be handling the additional heat with the available cooling system mods. Of course they could do better with a more efficient aftermarket tank that you can fill with ice rigged up but no one has done that yet that I know of. Really they just need to get actual software for the dual pulleys to get the max potential out of the mods.

It seems like a waste to me to just change out the pressure plate though. Plus the parts + labor cost is so high that I wouldn't want to pay someone twice or more to get in there if you can't DIY.

You can always put in a new OEM clutch.

Stage II Flashed Back to Stock, 15K Service, then back to Stage II Tune

Spinning a supercharger past its efficiency will create a ton of heat. Yes you cool it down like crazy and it will perform but it will very quickly heat soak and be slower. Also the bearings in the supercharger will prematurely give out. Running a trunk tank is easy. I'm not modding mine crazy. If someone sent me one with a blank check could get crazy with it. Have an e55 coming in for a build soon that will be fun

In theory yes but in actual application it doesn't seem to make a big enough difference in heat and material failure. Need to check how many miles the current dual pulley guys have though. The owners could also change the SC oil more often too to prolong the life of the SC and I don't think that Audi actually gave an interval to do that service. It would be interesting to see what the actual SC manufacturer states as an interval though.

On a serious note, you have talked about building a 3.0T and that would be cool. I know that audistealth keeps bugging you about it. Good luck with the e55 build.

No one is building the 3.0 big enough and he's got the skill to do it right. That said, I know it'll be a cold day in hell before that happens, and I don't disagree with his reasons.

Not gonna argue with you. I'm sure you have plenty experience building supercharged cars

I am not arguing but rather just pointing out what I have seen. It appears that blackbenzz took it offensively from his comment below and that wasn't the intention. It really would be cool to see a properly built 3.0T.

If someone wanted to front the bill id build it for them but not worth it to me for personal use. Sounds like fun

Yes at Capitol and I never had a chance after that run, clutch just wouldn't hold.

Ah shit DSG, so it can't compare to my 6MT. If you got your 60' down you would be into the 11s no problem and race gas would get you there as well.

    This was mine:

Assuming I can hook. Last time I tried in really cold weather, I was slipping all over the place, lol. Of course that could be just Capitol's prep. I assume MIR is a lot better, so I can't wait!

Do you still have the car and did you fix the clutch?

What rpm do you launch at?

Capitol's prep isn't the best. MIR's prep is usually a lot better! I have seen cars lift the front end off the ground when it is cold as shit in the mornings.
