    Headlight washer covers???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Folks,

Unfortunately one of my headlight washer covers has a rock chip that is allowing water underneath the paint during rain. It's at a point where it creates a little pocket of water, which eventually evaporates and let's the paint sit nice and flush the way it is intended to be. My questions are: 1) how easy is it to remove the headlight washer covers? 2) is it worth having them resprayed, or is there a way for me to source a new set that already comes paint matched?

    Thanks!

I would just leave it and repaint the whole bumper once you have enough rock chips.

I'd just get some xpel and vinyl it temporarily until you're ready for a respray on the whole front end.

I may have to resort to this ... I tried touching up the chip that was allowing water to get underneath, and the chemicals of the touchup paint lifted it up even more and it started peeling. As a result, over half of the paint on one of the washer covers peeled off like paper. Now debating on whether I want to respray bumper and washer covers, respray just the washer covers, or vynil wrap them. But if I go the vynil route, what color? I'm not sure I'll be able to match meteor gray metallic...maybe satin black to match the wheels and optic black grill?

Oh, if they're already missing paint, I'd just get them painted to match. The way you described the issue I thought you just has a very small area the paint was missing. If you just aren't at a point where you can paint them, take it to a vinyl shop and try to find the closest match possible just to get you by.

I've seen people run different color washer covers, and it just doesn't look right. It takes away the class that the front end has, IMO.

Well yes, you thought right, the area was very small. I attempted touching it up and it had a very interesting effect, causing the chip to get larger and to start lifting up...trying the vinyl route and if it doesn't look good, respray it is.

Folks, for those interested, I figured out that the headlight washer covers are removable, without having to pull the bumper. It literally takes seconds to remove them without damaging anything. I pulled the one with the paint problem and dropped it off at my local bodyshop to get resprayed. Usually they charge $25-50 per side for respraying them. If anyone ever needs to replace them, they retail for $56 per side, but I have found them as cheap as $33 per side brand new. Unfortunately they come unpainted, so the paint job is unavoidable.

Dang...no problem and thank you! ... it truly is the thought that counts :) ... I'm simply amazed that I was able to remove it without bumper removal!
