Getting a Q5, and need your help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So long story short, my wife's 14 Grand Cherokee has given us more problems then you can imagine so I have steered her toward the Q5.

I currently own a 13 s5, so figured it would be a nice line up in the garage and she has always loved the drive and refinement of an Audi.

What I need help with is in your experience, what are the must haves when it comes to the Q5. Iv built a few online and realized how quickly the options can add up, and since my wife isn't as crazy as I am about what she's driving, I don't know if I really want another large payment if she's not going to really care about the little styling choices and everything I would go for.

I know I'm definitely going to go with Premium Plus, with Tech package and sports package. I would really also like the whole new s-line competition plus package but then you need to get every other option which jumps up the price.

As for the motor, is the 2.0T a dog or are others happy with it?

Any insight and help from you guys who drive the Q5 would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm in a similar situation. I have a '12 S4 and my wife has a '12 Q5 Premium Plus 2.0T (which is now the.Technik pkg in Canada).
Her main requirement was Quattro so we initially looked at base models. Salesman suggested the 2.0 T Premium Plus in the color she liked and no more. Fast forward a few years and she absolutely loves the B&O, the Pano sunroof, and the excellent fuel economy of the 2.0T.

Yeah I know about the new body but my wife doesn't like it anyway, and they are running great insentives for the new ones because of that.....

Does anyone know if you can get the 2.0 with the s-line exterior styling? Or do you need to go to 3.0 for that

In Guatemala we do get the S-line in 2.0T. I would suggest that a 3.0T in Stage 1 gets you to 410hp and that for a weekend car should be very fun.

As great as that sounds, i don't need my wife giving my little ones whip lash lol. Is there any packages that you can only get with the 3.0 and not the 2.0? When i build one online they only show a lot of the packages for the 3.0

Just my $0.02, but I think a quick test drive of both the 2.0T and 3.0T is a must-do. Engine choice in the Q5 makes a _huge_ difference in the character and refinement of this car. More-so than any model I've ever driven... I'm not sure I could live with the 2.0T every day after putting ~500 miles on a few in loaners. Others seem to like it. Try before you buy!

    Good Luck!

I have some experience with your situation. Got rid of my 13 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk last year. I just leased my fiancé a 2016 Q5 2.0T. Its a premium plus, tech package, upgraded 19's, and sport interior package. You can't get the full sport (or s-line as its called) package unless you go with the 3.0T. The sticker on it was just over $50k so if you don't want to get too crazy, thats a good spot to be at. My fiancé is the same way your wife is, as she doesn't care what she drives. Im the idiot who has to keep buying Audis for us lol.

As for those options, the tech package pretty much gives you anything you would need. Bluetooth audio, rearview camera, navigation, etc. The sport interior is a must have IMO since it gives you the nicer steering wheel, black headliner(thank god) and a mild version of drive select. I believe it just controls steering and throttle.

I used to have a 2013 S5 with APR Stage 2 and now I'm driving a stock engine 2012 S4 so Im very used to what the 3.0 has to offer. Ive driven the Q5 a bit, just had it down in Westchester today actually, and its really not bad at all with the 2.0 in it.

If you have anymore questions or just want to pick my brain about it some more feel free to shoot me a PM!

We purchased my wife's 2011 Q5 2.0T new in late 2010 and it's been a great car. 105k miles now and for sale.
I've done all the maintenance myself and the only reason it's been to the dealer is for oil consumption which was covered under warranty.
My wife loved the car and was considering a Q7 until we saw it in person (puke) ...the only downfall to the Q5 is it looks pretty much the same since 2009.
The redesign comes out in 2018 so id be hesitant at getting what's going to look like an "old" car in less than 2 years.

Btw I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee and it's been very reliable but I've read countless complaints about reliability.
    I can't say I'll be buying another.

The 2018's will be first-generation Mexi-built, just like those Chebbys.
Personally, I'd rather have my German car come from Germany.

I mean really. . .do you want an "M" from Tijuana, or maybe an AMG from Chihuahua?

When it comes down to it, you get what you pay for.

When I take my Audi in for services I feel I'm given top notch service and they always make sure everything is taken care of.

When I took my jeep in last week because I was having a misfire in two of the cylinders, they told me right away that it might not be covered under warranty. And guess what when they told me it was the spark plugs, and that the 100k spark plugs failed at 36k miles and it wasn't going to be covered under warrant I decided real quick that American made cars just aren't for me.

Long story short if I'm going to spend some money I want to at least be treated well when I take it in for service.

i think you should test drive both. what really sold me was how much better the stopping power is on the 3.0T vs the 2.0T/ the extra power is bonus.

just looked up some 60-0 tests:
    2.0T = 119 feet
    3.0T = 105 feet

the 3.0T comes w/ the same size brakes as the s4. two piston brembos :)

the 2.0T has more engine noise than the 3.0T also, at least in the 2.0T loaner audi gave me...

the price difference from a 2.0T to a 3.0T was a few thousand, but these factors justified my 3.0T purchase. but then again, the car was for me, and i like cars :)

Definitely should test drive both. I had a customer today she has a 2010 Q5 3.2 and wanted a CPO Q5 2.0T we test drove that and then test drove the 3.0T. She liked the pickup of the 3.0T and ended up buying a 3.0T Glacier white/black with the black optic package

Had a 2.0 for 8 months and got tired of the lack of power. % wise the cost increase for the 3.0 is negligible.

If you need to tell yourself the 2.0T doesn't have enough power to justify taking the loss on a trade in for a 3.0 then so be it.
Truth is it has plenty of power for daily driving.

Yes, in the US only the 3.0T (and 3.2 before it) is available with s-line.

Also, post-facelift (2013+) audi decided that chrome was appealing and added chrome accents to the trunk, door handles, lower door moldings. And this chrome comes only on non s-line package cars.

Fwiw I own a 2011 2.0t and am quite happy with it. Mine's been reliable, easy to maintain.
