Advise to go K04 with oil consumption issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Like to have all of u guys feedback, is it advise to go K04 while my engine is having oil consumption issue, it about 1L/1000km. I changed the pcv valve and there no oil leak around the rear main seal area.

Car had been running well, no misfire, white smoke and etc. Was really wanted to get it K04, so will the increase in hp and torque make the oil consumption worse or so?

Any one go K04 with oil consumption issue can advise?

    Thank you in advance.

Why not have your oil consumption fixed first?

Because I will only going to have this car for another 2-3 years, so considering the amount of money use to top up and rebuild the engine is quite a big different. So was thinking if I can get K04 and just continue to top up the oil.

I'm in Singapore and already went back to Audi and the warranty is over and they wouldn't not do it for me. Will cost me about $3700 to replace by Audi using the new version piston, conrod and piston ring.

Here the info of my car, 2009 S-tronic Quattro about 106000km on it.

So I will only cost about half of the cost to get K04. With how the Singapore system work for car, I can only have the car till 2019 and if i were to keep the car I need to pay about another $40k for another 10 years. That the reason why I don't plan to get the engine build.

k04 or not, your problem is only going to get worse and worse until you are putting oil in all the time. I am at that point where i have to rebuild and I have the k04. I would just save the money, but its your call.

Does it make sense to upgrade the turbo on an engine that may not make it a couple of years without new pistons?

My opinion is that your engine will get worse and worse and eventually die of oil starvation and seize up. This is especially so if you have big turbo and are pushing it more and more spinning it faster and for longer at higher rpm. Not worth the trouble, fix your consumption or get rid of the car. If you dump 4k into a new turbo and you blow the motor can you afford to dump another 5-6k on engine work/engine swap?

Fix the primary problem first! That is all

I think many people here do not understand the cost and reality of owning a car in Singapore. For us in the USA, Singapore car ownership is unreal. You can only have a car for 10 years, if you get a permit, which costs somewhere around SG$40k (USD $30k). For a point of reference, my buddy with an A4 in singapore has paid something like SG$200k (US$150k) for the car (annual registration fee, import duty, road tax, registration fee and license plate). And I believe you need to get this permit every 10 years, whether or not you are keeping your current car.

@OP, given that you are going to have your car for another 3 years tops, I would say screw it, get the K04 done and have a little fun, and then part it all out when you get rid of your car and move on in 2019. I feel for you man, i dont know how you folks in SG do it unless either you are fabulously wealthy or your employer provides you with a car...

Hi kdaffy, you are totally right about the cost of the car we have to pay. But what your buddy paying is for a brand new A4. I got my A4 2nd hand and even it 2nd hand I believe it still more expensive.

I'm not fabulously wealthy, that why bought a 2nd hand A4. That my thought to screw it and just get K04 and enjoy the ride. So asking over if any one had get it K04 and when it really get worse than rebuild the engine.

Is this thread seriously still going? You can't put a band-aid on something and think it's going to be okay without doing it the right way and fixing the main issue. Also asking if adding more power will make it worse is a question you might want to ask yourself, reeeeaaally think about that. Fix the main issue before going K04, it's common sense people.
