    Aux fan problems

    Hi all,

    2005 allroad 2.7t 6mt

First post here but I've learned a lot from you guys. Recently I fixed the loud "air raid" fan on the outside of my radiator by installing a new auxiliary a/c fan (pass side behind radiator). Easy enough fix, and for the first few days with the a/c on normal, everything was good, both fans blowing at normal speed. Well, today temps reached in the high 80's and when I started the car, the engine immediately began to idle very rough. I drove around town a bit and the roughness decreased a bit, but as soon as I go back to idle the roughness comes back. Popped the hood and the aux fan seems to me to be working overtime, which is odd because the engine was not even warm yet. When I switch off the a/c, the aux goes off of course and idle goes back to normal. Is there a switch/sensor that maybe is bad?

    Or

Should I unplug this new fan and go back with the "air raid" fan? All was working fine then ( no rough idle) but I just hate that loud fan. And before and after the aux fan install, a/c blows cold and no overheating. So the only issue with one fan is that's it's really loud when the a/c is on. Thanks very much in advance

Where did you get the replacement fan from?

It's aftermarket but had good reviews on eBay. It looked like a quality fan, identical to the oem one I pulled out
