Radio works intermittently - and other stuff

    Hey everyone, new owner with a 2006 A3 3.2.
Just bought the car a few days ago and slowly finding the gremlins....of which there seem to be many.
I have a couple of questions, maybe some of you can point me in the right direction.

I've searched the forum for an hour or more looking for answers, found a mixed bag but no actual answers.

    1) Radio works intermittently.
Sometimes it just works....tunes into multiple FM channels without issue. Other times all I get is static. I also signed up for a free trial with XM, I can't activate the radio, the freeview channel is intermittent and takes forever to load (up to 30 minutes before I get sound)

    2) P0101, P0171 and P0174. Searched around and consensus is dirty MAF sensor or air filter. Any other things to look for ?

    3) Do I or do I not have a compass on the rear view mirror ? The owners manual says to hold the power button on the mirror until the compass appears...yup, tried that, nope, it didn't appear.

    4) Last and certainly not least. Highway driving, taking long right turns the car is "lurching" left in a rhythm about every half second, left, left, left. Feels almost like I am driving in hollows in the road but only on the left side of the car. Doesn't do it making left turns. I also have the very beginnings of a wheel bearing making noise but find it hard to believe that it's causing this amount of movement.
End links ? Sway bar ? Ball joints ? The bearing ?
I don't know where to start looking.....get underneath and start swinging on things to see what's loose ?

Oh, one other thing. Can anyone recommend an iPod interface that doesn't interfere with 2G nav and satellite radio functions ? It needs to have steering wheel control and display the song and album titles correctly. I have the 6 CD changer in the glove box if that helps identify my setup.

    Thanks for looking.
    Will

    1) You can try updating the firmware of your system to see if it helps or makes a difference for the radio.

As far as ipod interface goes, I would recommend retrofiting an Audi MMi unit. You would need to upgrade the firmware as well for that and the retrofit kit will go for around $400 and everything integrates with factory controls

Thanks, that would require getting firmware CD's though, Correct ?
I was looking at my HU and it seems I have version 0260.

Correct. Although there is no guarantee that it will fix the radio issue, id its a hardware issue

But an HU update can lead to the retrofit MMI
