New '16 S6 on the way!

Hello all, first time poster here. Excited to say that my local dealer is doing a dealer transfer and getting me a new Glacier White S6 this week - black optics, sport package, carbon atlas inlays, LED headlights. I had a couple of questions -

1). Any good after-market shift knobs that are more rounded like the RS models? I did a search and some found threads about C6 owners making the switch, but it seemed like a pretty involved project. Anyone done it recently or are the old DIY guides still my best bet?

2). Do you guys recommend a skid plate/pad for the front lip?

Thanks! I'll post pics as soon as I take delivery.

Not to be a vulture, but I'll buy your '16 shift knob if you are going to upgrade. 😃

I would go with the OEM RS6/7 gear knob.

Pretty much plug and play, and a 5 minute swap - unless you need to transfer the gaiter also, which is a little fiddly.

Here's a pic of my S7 with the RS knob fitted.

i went back and forth with either getting the rs knob or the s3 one i went with(both wrapped the same way) just couldn't bring myself to put anything with a RS badge on a car that is not a RS(even though i do have the turbos lol)

But it's ok to put an S3 gear knob on a V8 S6?

Each to their own l guess. At the end of the day it's an awsome car, knobs and all

Well my rationalization is that it doesn't have anything that says s3 on it but does say s-tronic which I do have lol. I went back and forth for about 2 months trying to decide. It wasn't easy because the other side of the coin is I do have rs turbos lol

But yes. I'm totally a purist. I have been since day one and it's been well documented on the forums for years lol

    Thanks guys.

The wheel was an eBay purchase, and lm totally taken buy it, the quality is second to none, and the carbon matches the interior perfectly.

It's also a lot thicker than the OEM S6/7 wheel, and the RS7 wheel which I actually removed to put this on on.

Here's a link to the eBay seller - I think he still has stock, and with the current exchange rates, you may get a bargain

That really is a stunning steering wheel. So much so, that I'd seriously consider giving up the already pathetic heating function on my steering wheel for that thing.

can someone link me to which rounded shifter knob they used (several on ebay, not sure which one, not looking for the fake RS branding, but the one that says s-tronic).

Would this work well in terms of an easy swap without having to use the heat guy method to bend pins, etc?

No need to heat and twist anything, however you need to double check the knob will fit your S6 DSG shifter. Not all round knobs with a front selector button will fit the S6/7 - as I found out, hence my dealer purchase of the RS7 one.

damn. they don't make any wheel for the lowly A6. Gotta get an "S" to be admitted to the club.
    thanks for the link though.
