    Replacing Rear Calipers with EPB

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

Need some help with this. I don't want to go messing with things that I don't know so I thought I would ask first. I just Replaced my Rear Brake pads for both sides and I noticed that Fluid was coming out of the piston (Right side). I pushed the Piston back in anyways and installed the new pads. Now my break light is on and I can feel how loose the brakes are when I drive. I have to basically floor it. Pretty sure its the caliper. Only thing is I don't know how to replace the caliper with the EPB on it. or what steps I need to take to make sure I am doing this right. Can anyone give me some Info? Thanks Ahead of time. Oh and i have a VAG Com

Did you use your VAG when you changed the pads out? You might have jacked a caliper up if not since it's leaking.

Did you bed the brakes and cycle the parking brake a few times?

If he didn't remove the lines that shouldn't be the issue.

True, but isn't there the possibility of air escaping in thru the piston if fluid was able to leak?

Could but there's a bigger issue if it's leaking to even get air internal.

    Hey Guys

thanks for the quick response, I did not use the VAG COM at first Because i did not have it at the time. @The Infiltrator I think you might be right. I feel like I tore the Boot somewhere along the way.

Do you guys Know how to Replace the Caliper with a EPB using a VAG COM?

    Thanks again

I agree @infiltrator just figured he should go thru an elimination process first.

When I changed my rears I used the snap on solus pro, pretty easy to use

If you look at the links in my first post it'll have a video on how to use VAG for the job.

If it comes down to the caliper being bad I'd open the reservoir cap, disconnect the brake line (to the bad caliper) and connector, remove the bad caliper (VAG won't be needed to slide the caliper and pads off of the rotor), connect the brake line and connector, go through the VAG process and retract the pistons like you're replacing the pads (it'll make sure the new piston is retracted and matches the position of the other piston), install the new caliper, follow the rest of the video to close the piston back until the end, bleed the brakes, put the reservoir cap back on, drive and bed the brakes, and you should be done.

This isn't to insult your skills but for anyone following this post later on.
