    Intercooler blocked off

I was just washing my car and realized that there is a black plastic piece blocking of a portion of the intercooler on the drivers side. Anyone know why they did that and would it have an advantage if it is removed?

Yes, it is completely closed off with plastic on one half.

Yes that's exactly what I was talking about. Why would Audi do this? Isn't colder air better?

I think this is done intentionally to eliminate condensation from forming inside the intercooler

Has anyone tried taking the blocking mechanism off? I wonder how well it will increase flow and decrease temperature if it's fully open? Also, how hard is it to take off the blocker?

Would like to pick this back up? Has anyone done so? Other forums have a good amount of chatter regarding removal of this piece in lower humidity regions.

Anyone done so? I am tempted my self. We were given the gift of a upgraded intercooler (same as s4/s5) why not use it baring condensation build up risk? Diff between this and upgraded IC (risk wise)?

Moar power from tune and bolt ons this would make sense to do and is relatively easy to complete. Reading 18's don't have this cover FYI..

So i peaked at mine (my18) and i didnt see it.. ill look again but i hate to promote other FORUMs but Audiworld has extensive write up on this and you dont need to remove the bumper... there are 4-6 screws to be undone under the IC/Bumper and then the flex is enough to workout the plastic shroud....

    I've taken mine off

Canada ontario where it gets very cold, very hot and very humid at different times of the year and no issues so far. I took it off because it took the car to the track to do some lapping and i thought it could use all the air it can to keep the IAT down.

took less than 15 minutes to take off.

I did not, I did it from the engine bay and had a few bolts and clips of the bumper and underbody shield removed.

Mine is off my Allroad. Hated the fact that it blocked a portion more from a visual stand point as well. Threw the balance off.
