Who would openly admit that? Shit if I was trying to catch a rare one and smashed a curb I would just say "I hit some gravel around a turn".

Needless to say I've been making my girlfriend drive more and more

    Pokeman - No-Go? We have a winner.....

I saw a news story that apparently Churches are considered Gyms for Pokeman Go characters (IE places to build up your character) - we'll this one person lives in an apt that was previously a church.... and guess what they have lot's of guests dropping by.....

I also saw the game has been credited for finding things like dead bodies - LOL.....

Now it's damaged vehicles - interestingly Nintendo stock has skyrocketed - think you could get them to cover the damage - LOL

So many dumb drivers out now that this game has come out.

I played the beta about a month ago and called it quits.

I was out on a walk yesterday texting on my phone and had a girl in an A4 roll up to me complaining that there was a Jigglypuff in the park and she couldn't find it.

This is somewhat related and equally dumb: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2...ries/86922474/

34 year old here, and I remember vaguely that Pokemon came out maybe when I was in 10th grade or something...? I never played it, although I was an avid N64 gamer (Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark and all the other usual suspects), and still don't really understand what it is all about. But apparently grown-ass people are losing their shit over this. Hmmm.

I'm 23, so I very much grew up around it.

All of my co-workers who are 30+ are playing it.
All of my classmates are playing it.

Wonder how long until it blows over...

Pokemon came out mid 90s, and as a late 80s baby I obviously got consumed with it at an early age. I guess Pokemon Go is a way to reconnect with my childhood, in a cool new augmented reality way. As a software developer I downloaded the game to mainly see how they built it, where the creatures pop up, etc. It's funny because even working at ADP I hear adults talking about it in passing, it's seemed to really hit with people of all ages.

Like anything, people get completely consumed (and inevitably crash their cars into curbs). Everybody wants to be the best, right? This is a craze and it will die out after a few months of people getting frustrated that they can't find the legendary Pokemon anywhere. What we are experiencing is the initial boom, and good for Nintendo for having a launch so big it crashed all of Niantic's servers!

I'm 31 and work at a large software company. The center of our campus has a rock that people paint occasionally, and it happens to be a Pokestop. Inevitably, there's a Lure on the thing 2-3 hours per day, and when it goes active a crowd gathers. I haven't gone over, but every day when I get back from lunch there are probably ~30 people standing around the rock on their phones having a good time.

It's unreal how many people of all ages are playing this game.

My boss came over and asked about it today.

Like the others I am also a Software Developer and tried it about a month ago just to see how they implemented it. (I signed up for the beta last year when they announced it)

I work for a public agency and the sign in front of our office is a Pokestop. I've seen small groups of people gathered there.

It is cool that it is bringing people together and getting them walking around.

Also, Nintendo's stocks are up like 35%

A few of my coworkers were complaining they had people in their backyards catching pokemon

Why can't there be a Pokestop at ADP lol

As developers, as long as we get our work done, commit our code on time, and complete the tasks set forth, there is no limit set by our boss on how many Pokemon we can catch per day

33 year old here...I think I grew up right before the whole anime craze hit (Pokemon, Naruto, dragonball-z), so I never understood it. I think if someone got caught playing in my office, they'll either be sent home by me or thrown out the window by the boss.

I was 14 when Pokemon first came out, I'm 32 now. While I was obsessed with it back then, I haven't been interested in it since. I did however start playing this Pokemon Go.

My 10 year old son and I have been taking walks to capture pokemon around the neighborhood everyday. It's been good exercise and a good bonding opportunity. And since the game only has first generation characters, I actually know what they are.

I couldn't imagine driving while playing, or wandering someplace private / dangerous. That kind of stupid doesn't come from the app.

    Goldeneye was the BEST!

One of my customers is in her 20s and randomly mentioned Pokemon when she came in yesterday afternoon. My business has a shared parking lot, and apparently she caught a Pokemon in it while I was talking to her.

My old-man understanding is that this Pokemon game is basically a GPS-based scavenger hunt.

That is my understanding as well. It took my old brain a few minutes to put that together based on the myriad Facebook posts I've seen about it.

They're not real. The permissions were poorly implemented. They just utilized the full access permission to do what they needed, but data transmission confirmed they're not actually getting anything but the account name and email address, which is the same for pretty much any game that utilizes Google Services for tracking progress (so you can use it on multiple phones). They've already said it was a mistake and they're releasing a patch that uses the correct permissions.

Even the guy that wrote the article blasting Niantic about it said "Actually I might not be right at all".

It is a sad reflection on our society . Every one on cell phones or checking their mail every ten seconds. No one talks to each other any more, just texts and silly games to further divert peoples limited attention span. And cause even more accidents.

When I was a kid, we played marbles, and in grade 6 Pokemon was just being introduced. By grade 7 we were already out growing that kind of stuff, and have no clue what it is. Much like what a few years ago 'Angry Birds' was incredible...

How the world has changed in 25 yrs (or not) - at least say you were playing Ingress and save some face.

Though I guess this is up there with the guy that died in his Tesla watching Harry Potter :

Yep. I also remember my friends and I playing countless hours of multiplayer. specifically the temple level with proximity mines. made for interesting rounds, lol. you would stick them at the top of the doors that would slide up and people wouldnt see it and die instantly.

Loved the Temple map. IIRC it was only unlocked after beating the game on a certain difficulty level or some such thing?
For multiplayer my friends loved proximity mines on Complex, or "Complex - proxies" as we called it. There was also a general rule that nobody could pick Oddjob.

I vote for Pokemon Go thread to officially change to Goldeneye Reminiscence thread. Perfect Dark talk is also allowed.

I don't remember (or didn't know) that trick with the mines. My favorite was the grenade launcher in the temple.

I'm 66. I am aware of but know a very little about this new Pokemon game. For those of you who do play it, Get a life! if you still want to play, don't do so while driving.
