    Audi Drive Select not saving

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
2012 A7 Prestige, so it has advanced key, however my drive select mode selection does not stay selected after I stop the engine, lock, unlock, and restart. I think it defaults to comfort or maybe auto. Is there something I'm missing here? I checked the manual and didn't see anything on it. How can I get my last selected drive mode to save to the key fob?

nope. I changed the engine/trans setting in individual to dynamic and it won't save. Every time I get back in the car, the engine is very obviously in comfort mode (no longer displays S in dis for gear indication). As soon as I go to drive select and select individual settings, I change the engine back to dynamic and it goes into sport mode at that point.

You have to switch to dynamic mode manually by pulling down the shifter to have full dynamic mode..
I leave my car in dynamic mode but it's not truly dynamic until i pull down on the lever... it's pretty lame but that's how it is.

I set my engine / transmision in auto mode & exhaust in comfort mode under individual & and just yank down on the shifter to kick into dynamic/sport mode. I like the value in easily switching between the sport/dynamic and my individual setting quickly and easily.

Holy shiznit I didn't realise the pull down feature on shifter... that's even better! It toggles the mode, that's nice.

I think these is a little confusion with some of the terminology being used here.

The drive select mode - Comfort, dynamic etc. is saved automatically, and if you go back into drive select on the MMI after stoping/starting the car, the last selected programme will be displayed, assuming your using the same key. It does not return to any "default" setting.

The S, M & A modes displayed in the DIS relate to the gearbox modes only. They are separate from the drive modes selected via the MMI.

The gearbox mode always defaults to Auto after the car is switched off and restarted. You can cycle through all three options by pulling down on the shifter. Also, if you use the paddles while in Auto mode, the gearbox drops into manual mode and if there is no further manual inputs it will revert to Auto mode after about 30 seconds or so. If you want to shift back to auto before the default period has elapsed, just pull back on the shifter to drop it into auto mode again.

Here's what happens with my car: I set individual settings so that engine/trans is set to Dynamic. The setting takes and I can feel the trans behaving as it should and in the DIS it shows the S next to the current gear. Now, when I shut down and lock the car using the fob (not the touch sensor) and go do what I'm doing, then return and unlock with fob and fire up, the car reverts back to comfort mode or maybe auto mode, either way it no longer displays 'S' in gear indicator. When I open up the DRive Select page in mmi and press bottom right key to open the Individual settings screen, the engine/trans is indeed indicating Dynamic mode is selected in that screen, and at that moment the engine/trans goes into dynamic as seen on dis and felt. All I'm doing is opening up the settings screen when the switch happens, I'm not selecting anything. I find this odd.

Selecting Dynamic mode does not bring up the S in the DIS window, the only way your getting an S in that window is to pull back on the stick.

I'm set to Dynamic on everything except steering. No S in the DIS, unless l put the transmission into sports mode by pulling back on the stick

Your car is behaving exactly as Audi programmed it to.

If your running a TCU tune, then the behaviour may be different, but for stock, it's behaving as designed.

JK and others have explained it. S mode must be re-engaged whenever you restart the car. It must also be re-engaged if you go from S mode to manual mode and switch back. Upon switching back, it will default to D mode and you must tap the gearshift down to re-select S mode.

I vag-'ed the DIS to show current gear, I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I can assure you that when I select dynamic mode, I get the S in the DIS. When I start the car however, no S, until I open up the Individual Settings screen, then the S shows and I can feel the transmission go into dynamic mode, so I'm pretty sure something isn't right here.

I tried capturing all the components in play, and the picture doesn't really prove anything either, but when I select Dynamic in the mmi (NOT using shifter), it shows S on the DIS.

No sir! Everything is as it should be. The car will never turn on with transmission in S regardless of what mode you left the car in. If has more to do with cold starts- holding gears longer with the rpm climbing up fast as in S mode with cold oil is gonna hurt the transmission as well as the engine.

Thank you. That answers my issue. The cars transmission defaults to a normal mode after shutdown. I was thinking it was supposed to stay in dynamic/sport.... Makes sense why they do it like that. It's super easy to just blip the shifter to drop the trans into sport.

One other question on drive select: I'm wondering exactly what effect selecting Dynamic has on the engine itself, not the trans. The manual states something like 'more aggressive tuning' or something to that effect.... I have APR stage 2, so....is that effect nullified or....?
