    Coilvers options for Quattro

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I hate to do this, but I've searched and come across so many opinions. I'm looking to rekindle the fire with my car with a set of coils. The car is daily driven and not tracked. I'm looking for coils over springs for the sake of comfort, and I'll set it to 1" gap and never tough it again. I'd like to spend a max of $1100. The options I've seen are:

< $1000: Stasis SS, FK Highsports, Vogtland (seems Vogtland are best of bunch?)
    > $1500: Everything else.

I appreciate any guidance you guys can provide for good coilover options in the $1100 price range, and thanks!

for the price they're amazing. had them over a year now and they put up with some harsh road conditions here. got mine set on the stiffest setting and its still comfortable. also they're right in your price range. keep them in mind.

Why spend money on CO if your not going to be adjusting them?
    Get a good cup kit.
Isn't the Bilstein b12 getting popular?

Thanks guys. The cup kit was actually my first choice but I've heard/thought coilovers would be a more comfortable ride. I had a couple of Volkswagens back in the day and recall the H&R coilovers being much more comfortable than the cup kit. Reading some of the stories of harsh riding/noisy ST coilovers scares me.

I would recommend a set CO. With CO you can dail in the height to your exact preference.

I have ST coilovers and I can't say the ride is particularly harsh or noisy. Its about on par with stock, and since you're not planning on being slammed, maybe even a little more comfortable. I've heard really good things about the vogtlands, but ST is definitely not a bad choice on these cars.

Same here. My STs didn't give me any trouble outside of the occasional squeak over bumps. My car was low tho about 22" ftg. Rode comfortably in my opinion.

Thank you guys for your opinions on the ST coils. I've read about some rust concerns because they aren't stainless steel.

    My top candidates now are:
    H&R for $1185
    Koni for $1099
    Vogtland for $921

What do you guys think? A pic so you know what I'm working with.

I'd say go with the vogtland coil overs.

Thanks. From experience? Or, any particular reason you like those over the others?

No ideea. Dont think so. However, did see that you live in VA. I didnt adjust them for two years and had to cut one seat spring in half. Was stuck with dirt, salt, etc.

The STs are a great daily driver coilover. I have them on my B7A4 Avant for over 60k miles with no noises. They are made in Germany by KW and come with a 5 year warranty.

Did you see anything about the warranty? I did some searching and didn't find anything official but did see some forums talking about it.

Bilstein B14 can be had for around $1K and in my opinion Bilstein > H&R > Vogtland > ST. I have owned Bilstein and H&R, but not the others in all fairness
Currently have the Bilstein on my B7

Where is the bilstein b14 available in the US?

OK, did some internet searches a few different ways and think I may have some useful information.

    RS4 & S4 Bilstein B14 kit part no. 47-119444

    A4 Bilstein B14 kit part no. 47-169289

eshocks.com is a large Bilstein distributor that appears to be able to get these. I have ordered from them before for other cars & trucks and their pricing is always very good and good service as well, even with the Lexus GX470/Toytoa 4Runner/FJ/Tacoma Bilsteins that were on back order forever.

ECS Tuning has both on their website.

So my question is which to get? Does the RS4/S4 kit have a stiffer front spring? stiffer front and rear springs? valved differently to match stiffer springs?

    Feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I would get the part number specifically for the A4. The S4 and RS4 model, I would expect to have stiffer spring rates in front due to the V8.

Here is a pretty good price. Not sure what the ECS price is.

I like ECS, but went with Tire Rack for my H&Rs since they shipped it next day for free and came in $150 cheaper.

Thanks. Found more info from the Bilstein TUV documents.

    RS4 & S4 Bilstein B14 kit part no. 47-119444
    F: 80lb/in tender & 570 lb/in main (E4-FD1-Y504A01 & E4-FD1-Y756A00 [linear])
    R: 570 lb/in main (E4-FD1-Y756A00 [linear])

    A4 Bilstein B14 kit part no. 47-169289
F: ?? lb/in main (E4-FD1-Y919A00 [progressive]) Outer diameter 102-139-102; wire diameter 16; intentioned length 260; total number of coils 7.3. Spring rate with entire 139mm diameter spring = approx. 267 lb/in. Spring rate with entire 102mm diameter spring = approx. 782 lb/in. If equal distribution of coils between the diameters then rate is roughly about 525 lb/in which is slightly more than the rear rate below. However, the front to rear split or ratios are nearly 1, which is the same as the RS4/S4 set up which is just a slightly higher rate
    R: 515 lb/in main (E4-FD1-Y518A00 [linear])
