    GMG Springs rs5

    Hey Guys,

Dont laugh at me , but I'm a bimmer guy and I'm looking into lowering my car. I have been going through a lot of options and i really want to keep my ADS system, but when i got the car it has 31k on the dash. Right now I'm looking at getting the gmg springs , but I'm not sure if it will be worth it in the future.

I've noticed a bunch of guys running this setup and wanted to know has anyone had them on for a long period of time ? how did your stock suspension hold up ?

I was possibly looking at getting kwv1 with the edc delete, but i heard kw isn't the best platform for the audi. However, if i go with h&R they tend to rust in the winter due to the salt in nyc..

The GMG spring drop is the best one out there IMO. The H&R OE drop is also great. There are 2-3 recently on GMG here. I'm sure they'll chime in.

Damps could go at 35k, they could live to see 100k. You never know. Personally, I would have no reservations going GMG at 30k. We have several sets in stock.

GMG really beat the shit out of me in the car when I had them...H&R coils like a limo compared to them. Much better investment imo

I've not ridden on the GMG's, but I would agree with Chris, that the H&R Streets ride great! Not too harsh for anyone.

The H&R OE may be your best bet. Awesome drop (right @h8h8 rs5 ) and the ride is still very nice.

I bought the H&R OE's and love them. I was afraid it wouldn't drop it enough but I think the stance is perfect. Has not taken away from the way it drives at all. here are some pics of mine. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you're running ADS then you may be better off with the KW H.A.S (Height Adjustable Spring). It lowers the same if not a little more than H&R Sport but gives a great ride.

GMG gives you a great drop with progressive springs built by Eibach, keeping 90% of the stock ride feel, with the car being more planted and leaning less on turns. I have had no rubbing and no bottoming.

No question GMG's are the best spring for this car. That drop is PERFECT!

Are you using any spacers on your wheels?

I'd check with GMG that these will work with ADS before you click to buy. I asked a while ago if they would work with DRC and the answer was "no".

    Thank you, JamesRS5.
I am very happy with the setup and have nothing negative to comment. -Except that there's too much brake dust on the wheels ;)
In fact, someone who shall remain nameless just got my identical setup installed and is similarly pleased. I love that stance.

She look good, Pedro. Very OEM+ with the rotors.

How is the camber with the GMG springs? My only concern is inside tire wear. I went through that with my B7 A4 before I got adjustable uppers control arms. I would rather do it all at once rather than learning the hard way - again.

I've had them for just a little while and have not observed uneven tire wear. I was worried at first, but it's only 1.2 inches.

I think OP is confused, US Spec RS5's don't have the full ADS with dampening. So there really isn't any reason to prefer springs over coilovers.... besides price.

thank you for all the feeback. The decesion is really hard I wish there was someone in my area that had this setup vs coils. Like I said I have the ADS system and i really dont want to lose it, but its looking like i may just get coils.

Are you sure you have ADS, it isn't an option on the RS5? There is an DRC option in the rest of the world but Audi US didn't offer it for you guys.

I thought you were driving an S5 which does have the ADS option.

I thought ADS is the system that makes the suspension stiffer, controls the engine noise, opens and closes the exhuast flaps. Is that not ads ?

The system is called "Drive Select" and allows you to switch between the modes Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual. As a US spec car you will alter the engine, transmission and exhaust but your suspension doesn't change. For a non US spec car with DRC, the different modes adjust the ride stiffness and it is very noticeable between the modes.

So cars in the US do not come with ADS ?

Yes, you have Drive Select but from the picture you attached you can see there isn't a suspension option.

This is how the menu looks with the adjustable suspension.

Interesting you have a suspension option. Is there a noticeable difference in ride quality between comfort and dynamic?

Would be great to see a picture of the damper fitted to your car.

ADS on US cars is "Adaptive Damping System" which was available on the S5 but not RS5 as far as I know. Take a look at your damper and grab a picture if you can.

You do not have the Adaptive Dampening System in a US spec car.

For RS5's that have DRC or the S5 that has ADS. It enables you to remove the electrically controlled dampers without throwing up codes.

Lowering a car with the above two systems is a little more complicated and Spring selection is limited. You should be fine to fit whatever you like, GMG springs or coilovers without any trouble. You're lucky!

Got my car back and I don't have the suspension option there, which means no ADS ....YESSSS!!!!!!!!!...I'm getting KWv1 coils ..I'm only going with kw because they are good during the winter. I haven't seen too many reviews with the RS5...

They do well because they are stainless. H&R streets which are nice for $1200 for most are galvanized which might rust up in snowy winter climates. KW's are nice, probably about as good as it gets for a DD.
