Question Superficial scratches...Menzerna Heavy Cut 400 or 1000 or other?

    Hey all,
I've got 3 superficial scratches on my hood, through clearcoat and a little bit into paint.
Tried Meguiars Ultimate compound and a rotary buffer.
Improvement but I can still see them when looking at certain angles.

I ordered a DA buffer (TORQ BUF501X 10FX) and also considering a compound that will give better results with Audi's harder paint.
I read great reviews about Menzerna products and about the Heavy Cut 400 that decreases in abrasiveness as it is worked into the paint,
and that you can go straight to a glaze when done.

    Your suggestions will be appreciated...

If they're thru the clear, they're not superficial.
If you can feel your finger nail across the scratches, meaning, your fingernail would catch into the scratch, then it's too deep to be buffed out.

Agree with all the post, so I won't repeat. If they are swirls and from normal washes, then the FG400 from Menzerna is a great compound. With a rotary and ultimate compound, you could possibly be seeing the holograms that were put into the paint with the rotary, making you think that there are still scratches.

The Torq DA would be able to pull these holograms out if that is indeed what it is. You could however continue down the road of buying and buying and scratching your head along the way. Do you have a local professional that you can work with?

    Thanks for your replies.
Just remembered that i used my rotary on my girlfriend's older hyundai.

I hand applied the Meg compound to my hood.

So, based on your comments, i should get touch up paint and try to fill in the scratches. And work it from there.
Then consider taking it to a pro if the results fall short. correct?

    Thanks again.

I also would suggest not hand buffing the compound next time to save you some time. The compound needs to be worked in using a machine.

Is there any way you could post some pics?
We're going by what you're describing, and that's subject to different interpretations, but if you have a chance to post some pics, we can give you some suggestions that best suit your situation.

if you spray some clear detail mist on them and they go away, they are likely just in the clear. if they stay white or visible, it's likely through the clear. either way you can fill them and wet sand to level them out and buff to gloss. they should blend fairly well if done correctly. just take your time, tape them off.
