There won't be an Apple Car Play/Android Auto firmware update for MY2016 vehicles

I spoke with the C7.5 product manager on the weekend and when I asked if this was going to happen he told me no.

He said the radio/head unit hardware for MY2017 has been redesigned to provide Apple Car Play/Android Auto functionality.

This is more than a little disappointing, especially when my wife's 2016 GTi has this functionality.

just got off the phone with one of my buddies at the audi tech center. audi is testing a software update for the 16 model a6/7's for carplay. there is a slight glimmer of hope as the cost of a new 5f module retails for $3,075

No doubt. I don't see why hardware would have to change (lame excuse). Heck I'd be willing to pay a fee to get access to it. It's sad our VW relatives have had it, and we don't.

Any updates on this software updates for the 2016 A7s to get the android auto???? The modules are the same units so its only a software update. Come on Audi get on with it!!

According to dealer parts number for the main MMI unit and modules its the same between the facelift 2016 A7 and 2017 A7.. Even another person confirmed that to be true on audiworlds forums.

Had my 2016 in for service yesterday and when the car was scanned for updates there were none for the MMI :(

i work at the dealer, i did the part look up a month ago and they have a new revision for the 17 models, all of this is based on VIN numbers

I reject your assertion that the hardware is indeed different and substitute it with the idea this pn change is just to get us poor folks to buy new cars. :( lol

Yikes ok so then do you know what parts are different and what those parts numbers are? I want to see if I can get it retrofitted.

For what it's worth car play completely underwhelmed me when in borrowed a 2017 A7. Not impressed at all.

The android auto on the other hand is far more versatile and you can do alot with it.

android auto's redeeming aspect is Google Maps and waze.

but, you can run Waze in the background of your iPhone and get the same alerts.

both are underwhelming imho, their primary purpose seems to keep you from texting while driving.

which you can do on the 16's using Siri from the steering wheel and the text section in the telephone menu(although still more versatile with an android)

I'm currently in a 2017 A6 loaner, im not overly impressed with CarPlay, and I don't like all my information is available on the dash for everyone in the car to see ( incoming text ( from person displayed), list of people I texted.. if there is a option to turn this off I maybe more incline to like it....!also incoming phone calls display the person name in this HUGE font.. no impressed.
