Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

We're pleased to announce the availability of our all-new Audi Q5/SQ5 Adjustable Solid Rear Sway Bar! These bars feature one-piece solid spring steel construction and two-way adjustability, and are in-stock and ready to ship.

    034Motorsport Adjustable Solid Rear Sway Bar, B8/B8.5 Audi Q5/SQ5 & C7/C7.5 Audi A6/S6/RS6/A7/S7/RS7

    Retail: $245.00 + Shipping

034Motorsport is proud to offer the ultimate rear sway bar upgrade for the B8/B8.5 Audi Q5/SQ5 & C7/C7.5 A6/S6/RS6, A7/S7/RS7! The 034Motorsport Adjustable Solid Rear Sway Bar is made from a single piece of high-quality, 23.8mm thick spring steel for maximum rigidity, and is designed to combat understeer while reducing body roll under hard cornering.

This product was tested thoroughly on the street and track on multiple enthusiast-owned Q5/SQ5 and C7 chassis Audi models before release. The 034Motorsport Adjustable Solid Rear Sway Bar substantially reduces understeer and body roll on B8/B8.5 Audi Q5/SQ5 & C7/C7.5 A6/S6/RS6, A7/S7/RS7 vehicles without compromising comfort on the street.

The 034Motorsport B8/B8.5 Audi Q5/SQ5 & C7/C7.5 A6/S6/RS6, A7/S7/RS7 Rear Sway Bar is engineered to be used effectively with the stock front sway bar. No upgrade in the front is required. The addition of a stiffer front bar can positively affect turn-in feel, but ultimately worsens the platform's tendency to understeer. With the stock front sway bar and upgraded 034Motorsport Solid Rear Sway Bar, body roll is virtually eliminated while turn in and off throttle oversteer are greatly improved.

    Features:
    • 23.8mm Diameter
    • Solid Spring Steel Construction
    • One-Piece Design
    • 2-Way Adjustable
    • Designed to be used in conjunction with the stock front sway bar.

    What's Included:
    • B8/B8.5 Audi Q5/SQ5 Adjustable Solid Rear Sway Bar
    • Polyurethane Sway Bar Bushings
    • Billet Aluminum Sway Bar Brackets with Integrated Zerk Fittings
    • Sway Bar Bracket Installation Hardware Kit

In the install instructions is says "Please Note: We recommend replacing the factory end link bolts as they are torque-to-yield bolts."
Anyone have the OEM part numbers for these bolts for when I visit the local dealer parts dept. (yes I know they can look it up, but thought I would ask here first)?

    Thx.

It is pretty expensive for end links, but it does say on their website

Okay. . .the last of my benched parts have been installed: the rear sway, end links, and rear diff front inserts.
Regarding the install, the instructions are not accurate, at least not for the SQ5. It's not so easy to let the exhaust down on the SQ5. It may be easier on the other models, but the valve assembly does not clear the diffuser. I had to remove the hitch cover and the two middle screws that hold the diffuser up. That allowed me just enough room to get it out, but just barely, and with only one smashed finger. . .my bad. I wasn't going to remove the back bumper, come hell or high water, so I tried everything before finally getting it out. You need to remove the bushings and clamps from the old bar, which isn't easy either. Then, with a lot of trial and error, you should be able to get it out. Pay attention to how you do it though, because that's the only way you'll get the new one back in. Oh, as for torquing those end link bolts. . .forget about it. There is no stinking way to get a torque wrench on any of the nuts or bolts. In fact, getting those new end links tightened down was a real bitch. You'll need a 12-point box wrench and a lot of time. The inboard passenger side was the easiest. The outers have the shocks in the way and the driver side inner has the headlight leveling sensor in the way. It took me about three hours, but I finally got everything torqued as tight as I could with Loctite.

Then, I went for a drive...

What can I say, but "Wow!" Since I was using the 034 end links as well, I decided to go with the low setting (the outside holes of the bar). I'm glad I did. It handles much flatter now, and turn-in seems instantaneous. I took a reducing-radius turn under half-throttle and actually drifted a little. This is a great improvement over the Quattro push I've been trying to combat. This one now feels more like my first SQ, without the pano roof. I did some slalom steering and the body roll was considerably, noticeably better. The short answer is, this is the type of handling I wanted, without having to lower it. If I ever want more, I can change to the higher setting, although the thought of redoing those end link bolts makes me content, at least for now. Thanks 034! Another great product!

Thanks for the review and feedback. Your install story takes me back to doing the RS4 rear anti-sway bar on my B7 Avant. It got to the point I was too tired for curse words.

I've got to think the 'high' setting would make uneven bumps and the small things in life such as entering/exiting driveways painful. Just a guess.

I have mine installed for a couple of days on the stiff setting and haven't had issues with uneven bumps. Also, I am using Moog end links which are metal construction and only $13 a piece. The install was a bit of a pain, but it definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

The weight difference between the two bars is incredible. You can twirl the stock one like a baton, but the solid 034 requires both hands.

SQiveAre you thinking about doing the X brace? I was thinking about doing the X brace and leaving the stock sways. Did you feel any additional rear ride stiffness with the rear sway upgrade?

Done do'ed it. I have all of the 034 stuff except the actual engine and tranny mounts. but at only 20K miles, I don't need them. To understand the whole story, and how I was collecting parts for the old one before the accident, check my build thread at http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...c-build-thread. The wheels, tires, and all of the 034 goodies I installed when I got it home from the dealership with only 35 miles on it. That is, of course, except for the rear sway bar. I had it in hand when they discovered it wouldn't fit. Then, I had to wait 8 months or so for this correct one.

The ride is pretty much stock-like, until you turn the wheel under throttle. I just mentioned this on another thread, but I believe I have found my happy medium of comfort and performance.

I just received and installed my 034 rear sway bar and end links on the SQ5. It took a few hours for install and every swear word I could think of at the time since getting the bar out and the new one in is a task in itself, would probably be a lot easier on a lift vs jack stands or with someone's help.
I completely agree with SQive it is impossible to get a torque wrench on the upper endlink bolts that attach to the swaybar. I got everything torqued as tight as I could as well, or so I thought...

After the first drive the car felt amazing! Almost zero body roll and corner entry and exit feels so planted and smooth. The car handles how I want it for now. Suspension might be in the near future lol. This is such an awesome upgrade and if you pair it with the tranny mount and chassis brace you will get even more enjoyment when you turn the wheel.
My only issue is that when I go over the odd big bump I get a clunking noise from the right rear, it doesn't always happen only sometimes. Would this be due to my end link bolts not being tight enough? Or too tight?
Anyone else have the same issue?

Any help would be much appreciated.
P.S. I am currently on the stiffest setting for the sway bar.

    Regards,
    Kenny

I love this upgrade too. Pair this with the other 034 chassis goodies, and a proper set of coilovers, and you can safely double the posted recommended cornering speeds.

I haven't had any issues with the bar (or other 034 parts for that matter). I haven't experienced any unusual noises at all. Perhaps one of your end-links did come loose. Did you use the lock-nuts that came with it? I also haven't experienced any of the uneven bump issues some have mentioned, but then again, I'm on the outer setting, which I am quite please with. I may look into getting some end-links for the front sway bar, you know, with them being so fun to install and all.

That same scenario actually happened to me in my GMC Envoy after upgrading the rear sway bar. One of the bushings came loose and had to be shaved down just a tad to fit right and no longer slip out of place. That resolved the clunking; I don't know for sure if that's what is going on with your Q but worth looking into.

+1 for another happy customer. Installed mine this evening and I agree installation is a little tougher than it sounds, but when is it not . agree with everyone the top endlink bolt and nut are the hardest part, but with a little patience and a lot of small turns it all came together. I got everything torqued to spec except the top endlink bolt/nut... once you put weight back on the suspension there is no way a torque wrench his finding its way in there. Everything else went as planned.

Took it around the neighborhood for a test spin and it feels great, super planted, no body roll, just a lot more FUN. Got hard on the throttle out of a few turns and was very impressed. I had the Eurocode USS bars and links on my b8 a4 and loved them but I did have some clunking issues and when I parted out I noticed the bushings were eaten away at a little, so that is probably why. I do really like the feel of only having the RSB, not the front as well. I remember when I installed my EC front, I keep wondering if I enjoyed the test drive with only the rear more.

My 034 Kit is now complete: Tranny & Diff Mounts, X-Brace, RSB + Endlinks, + Intake Hose. Quality finish all around. Very impressed with the Mounting Clamps with Zirk fittings, etc. Beautiful stuff!

Thanks to Mops and Tamborghini and TeamSupreme for setting me up! Paired with KW HAS + HR spacers, AWE Exhaust + SLO filter, the SQ5 is a different beast then when i picked her up early June.

Ordered from Etektuning.com. They have free shipping >$100 and knock a couple bucks off the end-links. GF is always complaining about my turning speed, so well shall see what the queen thinks.

    Regards,
    Kenny
Thank you for all the feed back! We currently have the development department revising the instructions so it's easier to understand.
For the knocking please check and make sure nothing got loose after driving.

My 034 Kit is now complete: Tranny & Diff Mounts, X-Brace, RSB + Endlinks, + Intake. Quality finish all around. Very impressed with the Mounting Clamps with Zirk fittings, etc. Beautiful stuff!

Thank you for the honest feedback on the swaybar! I'm glad to hear that your enjoying the new suspension upgrades!

I just tell my wife that's what the "oh-shit" handles are for.
My ride could probably use the tighter setting, but given that I don't even notice it until cornering, I'm satisfied, expecially with the new end-links.

What size are the end link bolts; I think it's an M10 1.25, right? I had issues with the initial install and ended up having to rethread one side where the end link bolts to the car. I was good until I started hearing a weird noise as I turned my car to the left. I look this evening and the right bolt is missing! I need another new bolt ASAP and I hope that with some loctite will do the trick or do I need to take it into a shop for a fix?

So sure enough the hole on the right rear to receive the bolt is completely stripped to the point I can push the bolt in. Looks like I'm taking it into a shop to see what can be done unless somebody has any suggestions!

"The part" is the whole lower control arm. The sway-bar mount is tapped directly into it.
I would go with option A, as I'm fairly certain that a rear-lower control arm and its replacement labor wouldn't be cheap.

I went out to the garage to confirm that and found my rub. On hard-sweeping right turns, I was hearing a little rub. My left-side end-link is rubbing the wheel drive shaft on tight rights. The right side is very close, but appears to just clear it. Has anyone else taken a look at their end-link clearance? Mine is on the lighter setting, closest to the ends of the bar. It looks like changing them to the inner holes would fix the issue, but I rather like it where it is. I'll probably move them, but is anyone else having this issue?

    Any thoughts, 034 guys?

If you have the 034 rear sway bar, end-links, and are using the outer setting, would you mind taking a look at your end-links and check their clearance? I mean, if it isn't too much trouble.

Glad I'm reading this. I was going to pull the trigger but will hold off till things like this are resolved.

I already have noise coming from the steering column. The last thing i need to do is put an aftermarket part on that will add to my headaches.

I found that my rear end links (OEM) are angled similar to your picture. I am fairly low so that may be why its so drastic, I'll most likely move them to the stiffest setting when I get a chance. So far I haven't felt anything negative or had any noise generated.
